Okay, so last I was here was Thanksgiving/Xmas and we were feeding 3 stray cats, 2 small females and a big fluffy male cat. This, in addition to 3 cats I had inside. Now I have my s cats and one of the females inside, and the other female goes inside and out. The two females don't really get along well with my original 3, but for the most part, they can coexist but 4 cats are really all I can have inside. So the bigger male cat, which we named Mr. Fluffy cause he was so fluffy, it seems is not really that big because since it has gotten warm, he has lost alot of his fur (he is the only one that was a long haired cat) Here is the problem . . . he is very thin, and he has been hacking up and having a hard time keeping food down. We thought he might be sick, but today he hacked up a really big furball, so it dawned on me that with it getting hot and him losing some of his fluffiness, maybe this is his issue. He still seems to be hacking,  like he still has furballs, but not quite as bad, so I was thinking of getting some furball medicine and mixing it with his food to see if that helps. Plus he probably needs wormed, etc. Problem is, we do not have the funds to take him to the vet, as my husband is unemployed. He is a wonderfully friendly cat, very affectionate. We tried to find a shelter that would take him and find a home, but they only take unadoptable ones from the spca and allow them to come to the retreat. So my husband took him to the spca, but they only take animals by appointment and wouldn't even look at him. Next avail appt is the 27th. They also said if he looks sick, they might just euthenize him anyway. So I don't lknow what to do. I have 4 cats inside and cannot afford anymore, but I want to help the cat. I live in clever, mo, right outside Springfield mo, and just don't know what to do?? He is very thin, needs wormed, at the least. I was thinking of getting some hairball treatment and something cheap for worming. Does anyone have any ideas???

He sounds so very, very sweet and bless you and your husband for trying to help him. It breaks my heart hearing stories like this. People who are trying to help abandoned cats and have doors closed on them when they make calls to local rescues/shelters. What about calling a TNR group? Sometimes the vets that work with these organizations are extremely generous with assisting people like you in their community! I would not use anything over-the-counter for deworming though. You can also use Vaseline - about 1/4 tsp. a couple of times a week to help lube the digestive tract for the passing of hair. Just don't use it before or after meals because it blocks absorbtion of nutrients from the food. Use it in between meals and only about three times a week to start then go to twice weekly then once weekly. I hope you have some luck with finding a rescue or foster organization that could help you. :cross: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
