My boyfriend found a kitten outside his house last night and the poor little guy has no eyes. There is some yucky stuff in where the eyes would be that we have been wiping out. Does any one know how to care for kittens like this? Or what we should do from here? The little guy is so cute and loves to cuddle. Hes eating fine. We just dont know what to do about the missing eyes. Someone please help!!

Aw, how wonderful of you to rescue this little kitty! :hugs: :heart3: :rub:

Blind kitties get along just fine!!! He does need to be seen by a vet. He's probably got some kind of infection and needs antibiotics, and it's almost a given he'll need to be treated for parasites, inside and out.

Basically, they just need a stable environment (and kept inside full time, obviously), where things are not moved around. They'll learn where everything is, and soon enough, you'll be wondering if he really DOES have eyes!

I'm sure those with blind kitties will chime in. But there are at least several here on TCS. WhiteCatLover had a blind kitty - she posted a video of kitty playing, and you'd never know she was blind. Their other senses compensate really well.

And here is just one of a number of videos of Oskar the Blind Kitten, who also had/has no eyes.

You should probably get the kitten to a vet for a checkup and treatment for the infection that probably caused his eyes to fail.

:D I love Oskar the blind kitty! He's living a great life, and doesn't seem bothered by his blindness at all.

I love blind kitties! I have a 2 yr old blind cat, who has eyes but can't see and he does a fantastic job at living a healthy happy life. I would first though take the kitty to the vet to make sure there isn't an infection! If you have to wipe stuff out of the spot the eyes should be, there could be an infection which needs treated. Once that is taken care of, and their shots/neuter or spay and check up are taken care of, the only thing left to do is to have a kitty that you can love who will love you SO much.

My Billy was adopted by my husband and I when he was 10 weeks old. We confirmed his blindness with the vet but already pretty much knew. He can do everything any other cat can do, except see. When we first brought him into our home we used a baby gate to keep him in the living room. At night he curled up with the shirts we wore during the day, with a radio on low for noise so he didn't think he was alone. When we were home and able, we would open the gate and let him explore a bit. After a week, we move the gate to give him more access because he was learning the other rooms. After about 3 weeks, we only gated the stairs and he had the entire first floor learned and knew where food, water and litter box were, and how to get around all the rooms, on the couch, on the kitchen chairs and more.

After maube a month and a half, and us working with him, he learned he could climb the stairs. It took awhile, but he is great on stairs now. He learns by feeling, so he would use his paws to gauge how high something was, and figure out if he could climb on it, jump on it or make his way onto it. He does the same with jumping down....feels around with his paw for the ground or next level down. He lets out a tragic meow when he is "stuck" on something and we have to go get him, but he learned fast that if he meows, we will come help him!

We try not to move things around too much without trying to "show" him how to get around new things...and he does run into things occasionally. A bathroom door left open usually means he would be walking down the hallway which normally has no obstacles and run into a door, so watch out for things like that.

Also if he is small, don't leave the toilet seat open. If the kitty gets into the toilet and falls in, they can panic and hurt themselves even in that small amount of water. If you have any questions, feel free to message me, I love to talk about blind cats and share my experiences.

Also there was a recent thread about special needs kitties and I wrote this http://www.thecatsite.com/a/special...ource=subscription_immediate&utm_medium=email about my cat Billy, if you wanna read it also!
