Vaginal discharge...

Hey all,

At my wits end here. My girlfriend and I are expecting a baby in a few short months and really need to take care of this problem before then, so we appreciate your help!

I've had my cat for 8 years, and when she is in heat she often has a translucent vaginal discharge. For the first years it was not that much, and she managed to get it on the kitchen counters only (easy clean up) but over the past year or so it has been getting worse. She has effectively ruined our new living room set as the couches just stink of urine. I am almost positive that the smell is not urine, but this discharge instead.

Any other female cat owners experience this? Any ideas?

I plan on speaking to a veterinarian about this soon.

Thanks!

Why on earth have you not had her neutered?  She won't call then, problem solved.

So this is most likely due to her not being spayed? I definitely should have had her spayed...I didn't research like I should have. Anyway, that will definitely be done now. Thanks

I would get her spayed. It'll calm her during heat and she won't be so frustrated. Plus it eliminates some health issues when spayed.

If it is just when she is calling then yes, having her spayed should fix it.  It will also stop her getting pyometra, a serious infection of the uterus as she won't have one after her op.
