Hi everyone, my name's Alicia.  I'm a couple of weeks from 22, and am a social work grad student living in Long Island, NY at the moment.  I'm currently living with my boyfriend James, our cat (his childhood pet) Blair, and three friends, one of which has a tortiseshell shorthair named Bella who is about 7.

Both Blair and us are newcomers to our home, but she arrived about a month after we did.  Blair is a 13 year-old, all black shorthair, and is a bit gangly with long legs and tail.  She's been getting along well exploring the new house and establishing boundaries with Bella.  Blair has gotten a clean bill of health from two veterinarians in the past month, both of whom have remarked on her excellent condition for her age (she was seen before making the 10 hour trip to us, and then after to see a new vet down here).  She is an exclusively indoor cat, and has little interest in getting outside (although she loves windowsill sitting).

Blair is deaf, which works to her advantage and against it.  She is impervious to being disturbed by noise, and is always the calm in the middle of any storm.  Additionally, Bella has backed off of her aggression as she seems to have realized that Blair cannot hear her.  Blair is declawed in the front (something that James opposed way back when), and loves to extend her paws out and squeeze whatever is around whilst splayed out.  Unfortunately, she seems to have difficulty finding us sometimes, and she cries out a lot - we feel she might be distressed at times.  Fortunately my housemates are all cat lovers, and find it endearing.

Blair is a lap cat if there ever was one, even with strangers - she will jump right up and park it if they extend a hand.  I feel so fortunate to have such a friendly and tolerant cat, one who will even allow me to clip her claws without a fight!

I'm just "breaking in" to real cat ownership.  Growing up, we always had two cats at a time, as did James, on top of 3 dogs in each of our family homes.  We're used to a lot of fur! Unfortunately I am slightly allergic to Blair (I've never reacted to any other cat), but I have been able to manage effects with allergy eye drops.

I've loved cats for many years, and am elated to finally be mum to Blair.  She is much happier in our home than she was sharing it with a St. Bernard, Collie and Black Lab!

I'm here to make friends, share tips, and get advice when necessary.  I'm looking forward to getting to know the boards better!

Yay!! Another 'Lon-Gilander'!

Welcome to TSC!
To be fair, I'm actually a Western New Yorker, Long Islander for school purposes only :p

I'm out in Suffolk County attending Stony Brook.  Nice to see someone close by!  Your kitties are beautiful!
