We haven't had time to get a picture yet, but I knew her adoption story would warm some hearts here at TCS, so I just had to stop by and tell it --

Three days ago, my boyfriend moved into an apartment in my complex. We were getting his new place set up, and we came back from Walmart at 2 am with some groceries. As were were going back and forth from the car to the apartment, we noticed a cat wandering around. Didn't think much of it, since there's a large feral colony around the place.

Then, we saw she was trying to get in his apartment!!! She was pawing at the closed door, looking at us and meowing... so right away, we knew she was no feral... she was somebody's pet at one point, and homeless :(

There was no way my boyfriend could take her in that night, so we fed her and gave her some flea treatment, and finished putting up the groceries.... As my boyfriend was getting the last of the groceries, I was putting some stuff in the freezer, and we left the door slightly open.... My boyfriend comes in and says "Did you let that cat in?!" I turned around, said, "No why?" -- and there she was, sitting pretty as you please in the middle of the living room floor, casually grooming herself. :wow:

Clearly, she needed to be inside. But there was nothing we could do about it just then, so we left her outside overnight. So we talked it over, and my boyfriend agreed that if she was still around the next day, we would see what we could do for her.

That day, we went to Petsmart and got all the kitty trappings... litter, box, food, brush, etc...

I asked around my apartment, and one of my friends said she had also tried to get into his apartment, while it was raining :( And the leasing office said she had also been wandering around there searching for shelter for a few weeks....

So he decided that day that if she was still around, she was going to be his inside cat at his apartment  Whoever had dumped her, or had been compelled to leave her outside for whatever reason, had long since lost their privileges to owning this cat. She had no collar, no ID tags, and we're still not sure if she's chipped, but it seems unlikely for reasons I'll explain below...

That night, we were putting together some of his new IKEA furniture, and I took out some trash... and right out there, playing chase with another feral, was the little kitty. :) So I clicked my tongue and she followed me happily right to the door, fluffy tail in the air, and went right inside, finally having found a home. :heart3:

She is 100% comfortable with human contact. Eats kibble and canned, knew what the litterbox was immediately, etc. She loves to be petted and brushed. We think she is a year or so old; she's rather petite, and skin and bones at 6 lbs :( but we're working on getting some food into her!! She is a shorthair and has a mainly white coat with tabby patches on her back and forehead, and a big floofy tail :D

We took her to the vet today and she was an absolute champ; only a bit of hissing and cool as a cucumber otherwise. They tested her for FELV/FIV (negative), drew blood, gave shots and wormer, and checked her for a spay scar. No spay scar (which is why we think no chip), but she still has claws :bigthumb: So she goes in tomorrow morning for her spay.

She has been meowing and pawing at the door for the last few hours to get out, but we really doubt she has kittens out there somewhere as she would be going absolutely berserk by now, and this is just some quiet meowing.

She is really a little darling, and my boyfriend named her Evie... She is just the cutest little thing on four legs, and I promise to get a picture ASAP.

Anyway, sorry this is so long LOL but I just had to tell you all this amazing story!! A cat that would walk into a total stranger's house... we just knew she had to be special. :heart3:

Awwww... You know she chose you. Vibes all goes well with the spay, but it sounds like you have a nice new addition to the family.

That's what I'm wondering too.  Maybe the previous owners moved to a new apartment that didn't allow pets so they just abandoned her outside.  I glad she has a new home now!

Still unpacking so haven't got to the camera yet, but I wanted to add an update . :)

Her spay went well with no complications. the anesthesia made her grouchy and obviously it hurts her to move, so we're periodically rewarded with loud yowls when she gets up, lol. We're getting pill pockets in the morning for her pain meds (which are NOT metacam).

She can walk around okay and is eating, drinking, using the box, alert, etc. :D

I love happy endings, but I will NEVER understand how someone can just abandon a pet. I don't get it.

We agree with you guys and had thought of that too. We might ask the leasing office if the people here before us had a cat.

Me neither :( Especially when there are so many shelter and adoption options. To me it's like abandoning a child.

BTW, when can we see some pix?
Right now! :) The camera still isn't unpacked, so these are just cell phone pics, but here she is!

Sitting in the window.

And playing in some cardboard, currently her second favorite thing (the first is packing paper).

As you can see, she's rather thin and tiny, but we're working on it. Her little face is just adorable and I'll get a better picture with her just sitting up when I can.

Over the river and through the woods...
Aww, what a little sweetie! Talk about a house warming present! I agree, I bet she lived there before so when she came in she was like "hi honey, I'm home! Did you miss me?" Your boyfriend is a keeper!!

Thanks everyone! :D

Although, it is pretty funny when I go back across the parking lot to my own apartment. I walk in smelling like another cat and Boots and Kramer are like  for a few minutes.

She sure got a good deal if it really happened like we think... same comfortable, familiar house, with new and improved human caretakers! :lol3:

And the BF is already kicking me out for a few hours a day so he and Evie can have bonding time alone. He doesn't want her to become attached to anyone except her Daddy, not even me. ;)

Aww what a great story! She looks so much like one of my favorite previous fosters that now has a great home. He has a fluffy tail too.
