Today started out VERY well! I got a call here at work from a woman from 97.3 the Wave (a local radio station) stating that I had been nominated as an unsung hero for my fostering work and that she had some things to drop off to me! Come to find out, Jill, a friend and coworker, sent in an AMAZINGLY sweet email nominating me. She read the email on air and I was almost in tears! I won a coffee travel mug and some free coffee, as well as getting a really nice certificate.

Here is a big reason why I do what I do however. I just got a call from one of the Cat Rescue Maritimes directors stating that they received a desperate call from a woman in an abusive relationship. Apparently this woman has a cat with kittens who are 2 weeks old and her boyfriend is threatening to kill them.
The director was in tears, so I called the woman right away who literally broke down when I said I would come and take mama & babes right after work. So I'm just wishing time would fast forward and when I'm done in less that 2 hours, we'll go and get them. The woman lives 2 minutes away from work. My heart aches for HER though. It's one thing to help the cat & kittens, but I really hope the WOMAN is able to get some help as well.

Congratulations on your prize; it must be a great feeling to have all your hard work recognized. The second call is naturally a complete downer. :vibes::vibes::vibes: that the woman can get out of that relationship asap.

Thanks hun.

Well I just got MORE news that got me going. Dana just informed me that there is a good chance he'll be sent to Santa Domingo for work for 2 weeks either the end of July or mid August. This is GREAT for him and his career and I'm so happy for him, but at the same time I'm being selfish. I don't drive, so I'd basically be housebound for 2 weeks. Also, we've never even been apart overnight in the 4 years we've been together... We're completely attached and LOVE it that way... I can't even begin to imagine sleeping alone.

I know how that feels. I don't drive either so when my husband isn't around, I can't go far. I have a bus pass and our buses go to 3 cities so I can get around but it takes so long. A little while ago my husband was in the hospital for 2 days and it was so hard sleeping without him. We've only been apart overnight a few times in the 7 years we have been living together.

I wish but 1) I can't afford it. 2) No way I could leave the cats for 2 weeks and 3) I couldn't get the time off of work seeing as I just had a week off.

Congratulations on getting "props" for what you do!  I am so glad you are able to take the kitties to. Yes, I also hope that women gets out herself!

Maybe calling in for help for the cats, is the first step, & she will be next, right behind I hope. This will also free her up to leave without having to worry about them.

Maybe now she will.
Perhaps you can have a number for her to call to get herself help, If the boyfriend isn't around. That one small thing, could be the caring "push" she needs to leave the situation. If you have a local women's shelter, I would suggest she go there. They can offer support.

Good luck with everything. I'm glad you are not going there alone!!

OH Kailie - Congratulations on that wonderful surprise nomination :clap::clap: and those gifts. You deserve that and so much more :hugs: The story about the woman pleading to get help for her family of cats from the abusive BF reminds me of how I got Walden and Wendall. A very sad situation where they were abused. :bawling: Bless you for what you do and keep us posted on the little ones. Expect to be seeing some :pix: ????? :D

Larry and I are like that - but now he travels quite a bit. It was so very hard when he first started traveling. VERY hard. I hope the two weeks go really, really fast. At least you will have us to help you through that period   ;)

Wonderful taking in the mama and kittens. And how exciting to get an award for all the hard work you do.

As to wanting to help the woman, you ARE. Many women won't leave abusive situations because they have a pet and most women's shelters will not allow pets so they stay for their baby, fearing what would happen to them should they leave. It is a grossly neglected aspect of abuse and there are very few rescues that specialize in this. I found one in FL for another woman I knew on a board that needed to leave. It took a lot of work to find that rescue though.

Good luck to mama and babies!

About your husband being gone. Im a military wife and been through it many times. I just want to let you know it will be okay. The best thing to do is be busy with anything and everything you can. Get a book, buy a video game, rent movies, write and just do anything that eats time!
