My cat is a female 5 years old, she has a bladder infection that won't go away. The vet has done ultra sounds, and x rays put her on 2cc of Cefa-Drops daily, she is on her 3rd bottle and the infection is back.  Is it possible that the 3rd bottle has lost its strangth?

Has anyone experienced this and what do I do?  I am getting frantic

Is it possible it's not an infection at all and is actually inflammation? What symptoms does she have?

Has a culture and sensitivity test been done on a urine sample acquired by cystocentisis? That's the only way to determine exactly what bacteria are involved and which antibiotic would be most effective against it. http://tinyurl.com/76qtgqx

Also, can you get a copy of her urinalysis results (which include urine ph, specific gravity, etc)? Has she had any blood work done recently? Any cat with a truly recurring bladder/urinary tract infection may have another health issue that is facilitating the bacteria overgrowth. True infections in an otherwise healthy cat under the age of 10 are actually quite rare, so I'd want to get to the bottom of what else might be going on.

Could also be that rather than an infection, she has a case of idiopathic (interstitial) cystitis, which can be affected by stress and diet. http://tinyurl.com/88n74hb

She was on Science Diet as a young 8 month old cat. Transfered to Blue Buffalo for finiky cats for a year.. Now I am starting the transfer to Newmans Own both wet and dry, the vet says Low ash and Potassium. The shelter recommended Science Diet but she seemed to be having upchuck issues after a few years with it. She loves the Newman's own, but is having some diarreah today from starting he wet food.

I am working with a vet constantly, he has done blood tests, X raysand Ultra Sound, checking for turmors and cysts, etc. Cefa Drops for 3 weeks, I am wondering if the potency has worn out as she started spotting and bleeding again after the second bottle.. It is the weekend so will make a trip with notes tomorrow to see what he wants to do.

She is a spotted bengal, beautiful and great disposition. I know the siamese breed is known for bladder infections.

Thank you for your post, I feel he is doing everything possible but about to take her somewhere else.

If your cat is having urinary issues and especially if she is a bengal, a wet food diet is what she needs.

she is on Newmans Own $1.39 for a tiny can...and transitioning her off the Newman's Own dry.  See vet tomorrow again, hopefully he will know what to do. Its like the second bottle of Cefa Drops didn't work.  She was doing fine until we got on the second bottle, wonder if it was expired.

Been to the ver, he said female cats are impossible to get a sterile urine sample from, that it could be stones, cysts, cancer or a UTI. He prescribed new antibiotics choice of two shots a day or two pills a day disolved in water.

Other then an operation to see what is going on, he has no idea what more to do.

I have lost my daughter, a dog to cancer and another to heart trouble, We are home 24/7 and our animals have the best care in the world.

Sorry to vent, it is just so frustrating

You need to find another vet! That's a major red flag that this one doesn't have a clue. I would request a copy of your cat's file from him and then take it somewhere else, preferably a feline-only vet if you can find one in your area.

Kinda between a rock and a hard place here. 4 hours from Denver and 4 hours from Omaha, no feline vets in the area. This is farm country so we have catle and horse vets I did get wet food for UTI care, she loves it and eating well. No blood or spots today, back downstairs to the cat box. This is crazy, wonder if she passed some crystals or something yesterday.

I start the new antibiotics tomorrow so will see how it goes. I may drive her to Ft Collins, to the big vet clinic if things start to go Southl again. I sure

appreciate your advice and help, it is worrysome to say the least.
