How awful!!!! I'm so so so glad she's going to be okay! I'm thrilled she's home with you and getting the love and tenderness she needs and deserves.

I have just checked on her and I noticed a foul, foul smell and lots of wet pus coming from the back of her thigh, I have inspected closer and there is a massive hole, I was only told by the vet that she had the one injury. I have just phoned them, the receptionist checked on computer and they weren't aware of the other injury, what the heck, they have supposed to of x rayed and examined her, the hole is like the size of an english 50p and is very deep, there is also a smaller hole which to me looks like a bullet exit wound,I think my first theory was correct she has been shot. OMG I am fuming, so, so mad, we trust vets and they miss such a crucial thing. I'm struggling to get the antibiotics down her, crushed it in tuna and she's hardly touched it, I can't give her tablets she is not an easy cat for this, I will stay up all night if I have to to get her to have it. The vet just told me to bathe the wound in salt water, I have and the smell, nearly made me sick, she's going back in the morning and I want her treated properely this time.x

Whoa! Why isn't she going back now? If she was shot and there's an exit wound I'd want to make sure there was no bullet left inside of her. good grief I can't even stand this, people can be so wretched!

Because Ruthy's in the UK, and it's 10:15pm there.

Oh Ruthy, I'm just so sorry hun! I have to assume they'd see a bullet if an x-ray was done, and it seems there's an exit would. But it sure sounds like the wound needs further treatment. :( :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How do you miss an injury that large?  Especially if you are a vet?  WTH?  Keep an eye on her.  The 24-hour vet hospital might not be such a bad choice afterall...

What's really sad is that if Angel doesn't venture very far, there's someone close by using a gun to shoot cats.

I don't recall if you were giving her any antibiotics?

Never mind, just read you are trying to get the antibiotics down her.   Best of luck and I hope they kick in super fast.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yes they did an x-ray, they won't see her tonight because they are emergency only at night, she has now just got up and is eating the tuna with the antibiotic in (thank God) they don't class it as an emergency as she is not in a life threatening condition, she has eaten, drunk and pooped. Believe me if any of this changes she will be going back no matter what the time. They will be getting some stick in the morning off me, the smell is horrendous, how you miss something like this when her leg has been examined and x-rayed I just do not know. I'm on the phone to the local police too tomorrow and local paper.x

Good idea because this person needs to be caught before they hurt someone else's pet. Can you keep her in doors from now on?

Ruthy, when you're neighbor's kitty was shot, was it in the new neighborhood or before you moved? I'm wondering if it's the same person. Did they ever figure out who it was? :cross:

OMG Ruthy I just read all this what a nightmare for you on top of everything else. It does seem strange to me that if the vet thought she had been shot, did an x ray and didnt find any shot inside, then why oh why didnt they look for an exit wound in the first place
I would be real mad with them thats for sure.

Hope they catch the ****** who did it

Sending vibes for your girl

OP, the vet's advice to clean her up with warm salty water is good.  Hope all goes well this morning - suspect she will end up with a lot more of her leg shaved...

Awful people in this world to shoot a lovely kitty like Angel.

Would not want to be in their shoes on judgement day.

Praying Angel recovers quickly.  HUgs to you Ruthy for doing so right by her.

Well she went to the vets this morning, it seems it was an abscess that has burst, they didn't notice it they said because it hadn't burst and must have done so once she was home, I will add a picture, its horrendous, her temperature was raised and they said she's not a well kitty at the minute. The vet washed it out and gave her a painkilling injection, she told me to carry on with the antibiotics and she's given me some painkiller in a liquid form, she also has to wear a plastic cone collar and some solution for me to bathe it in 4 times a day and has got to go back friday for a check up and then they said if its not closing on its own after 7-8 days when the infection has gone they may stitch it. Dear me, my poorly girl.x

That is huge.  I had a cat that was forever fighting and getting bits but he never had anything like that.  I guess it helped that he had a very short coat so it was much easier to find wounds.  What I did find out was that otherwise well cats heal wonderfully well, so fingers cross Angel will be fine in a few weeks.

I imagine she will feel a lot better now it's burst and washed out.
