Hi Everyone, I am new to this forum and have been reading and learning about some great things. I took home a pregnant foster cat today. Apparently she just had a litter about 7 weeks ago and got pregnant again, don't worry she is going to be spayed once she is done nursing. I don't know how she got pregnant again and neither did the rescue but she did and I get to take care of her. She is super friendly and loves being pet. I have no idea how far along she is right now, her nipples are pretty pronounced and her belly hangs low. I think she is skinny from her previous home or was on the streets I don't really know but I am feeding her kitten food to help her out, she is not objecting. She is being spoiled and loved and I am excited to have the kittens. Anyway I just wanted to introduce myself and Sunny, my foster, any advice is great, thanks.

It's a really exciting experience to have a nice momma foster like that.  You will find plenty of fosters on this forum.  You'll have to update us with pics when you have a chance.  Welcome!

Thank you for the welcome, I actually felt babies moving tonight, she laid down next to me and let me touch her belly, she is so sweet.

If you can feel the kittens moving she probably has a couple of weeks to go which would mean she got pregnant almost as soon as she delivered the previous litter.

She needs as much to eat as she wants, hopefully the shelter have dealt with fleas and worms.

What did the shelter tell you?  Have you asked them about what their procedure is if she has problems delivering?  (very unlikely but it happens)

Poor girl, no doubt she is thin from raising a litter and having another pregnancy at the same time.

Kitten food will definitely help, dry out all the time and wet or raw 3-4 times a day depending how hungry she is. Agree with above re the worms and flea possibility

Hope all goes well with the delivery, good on you for taking her on.

They said she does have worms and are treating her for one kind but said she can't get treated for the other until the kittens are two weeks old otherwise the medicine will harm them, they said tape and round worms. I haven't seen any fleas at all and they usually love me. I feel bad about the worms because I know that the kittens are going to have them to now. I have to take her back to the rescue vet anyway because one of her eyes is tearing and now slightly swollen inside it, so she needs something for it and I will ask again about treating her for all the worms, when I got her I didn't speak with their vet just the volunteer at the shelter. She is super sweet and let me lie next to her and pet her and I could feel them moving a little again tonight, so fun. If there are meds that are safe for her let me know because then I can ask the vet, I wouldn't even care if I had to take her to my vet I just feel bad for her and don't want her or the kittens to suffer.

I looked milbemax up and it looks perfect, maybe I will try to talk to their vet about getting her that, would it be just a one time dose or every month I was unsure from what I read? I know I can order it without a prescription from a canada pharmacy which I have used before and trust. I wonder if the vet has even heard of it but I much rather take care of the worms now than have all the kittens born with worms. Thank you.

If you are already treating for worms don't add another treatment.  What's the name on the packing for the yellow liquid?

Is the yellow stuff called Strongid (pyrantel)?  If so then that is one that you will have to give again, but I believe it does not kill tapeworms. In the US you typically have to give this one multiple times as roundworms are becoming resistant to it.
