My cat Ally is very going to be a mommy. She went outside and came back prego, guess she had fun..lol. Anyway, she has had a temp of 99.9 since last night. She was pacing all night and could  not decide where to lay, or how. I had a nesting place ready for her but she didn't like it and would not stay. I noticed her getting into the clothes basket so I cleaned it out, put a towel in it and set her in it. She has been very happy. She ate a total of 30 pieces of food since 12:30am, yes I actually counted. The last time she ate was 3:30 am. Can anyone tell me about how much longer she has? I am not sure how many more days I can stay up while the rest of the family sleeps. lol

Can anyone tell me about how much longer she has? Also, I have a tom that is not the daddy......will he harm her or the kittens? I am really worried and just want her to be safe!

Unless you know the exact day that she got pregnant then no one can really tell you. Average length of a cat pregnancy is 65 days, although they say it can also go 5 days in either direction. The drop in temperature under 100F is supposed to be a sign that she will deliver within 24 hours, but i've seen threads on here where the temperature was down for some pregnant mommas up to 5 days before. There are tons of threads in this forum of others who played the waiting game, maybe read those to give you some insight as well.

This was my waiting game thread, I played the game for a lonnnnng while with my momma kitty: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/242533/wondering-when-the-kittiens-are-going-to-make-their-debut

As for the male that is not the daddy, its hard to say how he will act towards them. There have been cases of male cats killing a kitten in a few threads on here as well, I would not leave him unsupervised near the kittens because you just wouldn't want to chance anything happening.

I think she is about 60 days along. I have looked at a lot of different threads on here and have gotten some great tips that I never would have thought of. I can still see the kittens moving and her tummy appears to have dropped.

Pray the delivery is rather a little later than too early.

Clynn gave you an excellent answer also about the tom.

If you want to safeguard everything, keep them separated.  Males killing kittens is quite common in the wild.  For home cats being friends it may happen, but is unusual.

Otherwise, the probierstone is, if they are normally good friends and the mom wants his company as now.   If so, you can take the chance.  Do supervise them / him and the kittens in the beginning of course. Many males even toms are acting help mothers.

- But be caustious if you notice he isnt naturally friendly with the kittens. He may hurt them incidentally if nothing else.  Many adult cats are afraid of small kittens, hissing etc...

But if they arent really friendly, or you clearly see mom doesnt want him around, separate!!!

The  mom happy and not disturbed is the most important.

So even if the tom is howling and will in, but you see mom wants to be undisturbed, lock him in and obey the mom!

Welcome to our Forums!

Good luck!.

I do hope you will get them both fixed soon.  Remember, a queen can get pregnant when she is nursing.

I am going to fix them both after she has the babies. I am not sure anyone can go through this again. Ally (queen) and Boots (tom) love to hate each other and I am def going to keep them apart because she is showing clear signs of not wanting him around, more than their normal play. I noticed that she is breathing heavier, eating has drop a lot, and her nipples are pinker and bigger (puffy). Her temp is 99.2. I only took it again because it went back up and I was worried. She has been cleaning herself a lot more. She also doesn't want anyone touching her and she has gone from around to hour glass shape. She also starts to breath deeper/harder but it only lasts a few min. and then stops. The thing that concerns me is she is not nesting. I am keeping all doors closed other than my room. I have told my daughter who is almost 8 that she needs to stay away from babies and momma for a while. Luckily her dad is coming to get her for her birthday so she'll be gone for a week. Should I be concerned about the lack of nesting?

No, some don't nest until labor, don't worry.  You really don't need to keep taking temp as this will not tell you exactly when labor will begin and it may be stressful enough for her to actuallly delay her labor.  She will likely be very protective of the babies from the other animals until she is done nursing.

I am glad you are getting them fixed.  I would suggest you get him fixed now if possible and this would at least give her a one day break from him and he would be settled down after being neutered.

That is a great idea!! I appreciate every ones advice and I will be sure to pass along such great wisdom. I was not planning on taking her temp anymore. The last time I did I wish I hadn't. It broke my heart to see the pain on her face and I am not sure how accurate it is because I did not leave it in for the full 3 min of course with the pain on my baby's face. She is liking the bed right now, I am just praying she doesn't have the kittens on me lol. I have bed pads, dental floss, towels, and a soft blanket, food, water, and litter box. I feel there is something I am forgetting, I will use my finger nails if I need to because I do not have the proper blunt scissors. I also know not to let her eat more than 4 of the mother cakes because it could make her sick. I learned all this awesome stuff from reading posts. Anything anyone else can think of?

I added a couple photos of Ally on here. I also replaced the towel in the basket with a flat sheet. I read on a thread that the kittens could snag their nails on a towel, I do not want that so I replaced it with the sheet.

Oh my gosh she looks exactly like my foster cat, Camille, who's also pregnant!! How crazy!

Here's Cami:

I also don't know how much longer Cami has, we'll be playing the waiting game together!

What a shame she wasn't spayed as soon as she was let outside.

Do neuter the boy asap, males remain fertile for up to 2 months after the op and as already said females can get pregnant again shortly after birth, and will usually come into heat around 8 weeks after the kittens are born.

You can spay the mum along with her kittens when they are 10-12 weeks old.

I let my girls (registered breeder) eat as many placentas as they want, which has been every one of them (from 4-7 kittens) and they've never gotten sick from it, other breeders I know do the same.

Please do stop taking her temperature, unless you've been correctly shown how you can hurt her there is also no reason to stress her out. There are plenty of other signs that kittens are on the way.

Well, no kittens yet. She was so cute and slept by my side all night. Camille is so adorable!! I actually slept last night  which was nice. I know I'll wake up when she is having them. I am a light sleeper. I am excited to see how cute they are going to be!

Why wait to get him fixed?
Are we not reading everything?? Someone gave  me advice to get him fixed now so that he has a day to calm down. He is at the vet because that person made sense.

Not reading everything?? I am not taking her temp anymore. She was in pain the last time I took it and I said I was not taking it anymore. She was not spayed when she was let outside because she was playing outside with my daughter. My daughter would blow bubbles and Ally would jump up and pop them.

Come on people, I thought this was a place where I could get advice. Not be bashed. Rethinking my choice to be here for sure!!

Please don't comment anymore if you don't have something for advice or encouraging. I don't have time for it!

Why complain at getting the same good advice more than once?  You have enough time to keep posting that nothing has happened.

I certainly don't think you are being bashed. :dk: Perhaps people aren't reading everything, but they are reinforcing the good advice you received and are taking the time out to give you suggestions. :dk:

Yep, I usually like to put down towels and then soft pillow cases on top of that so no snagged nails.

I have one that is 8+ weeks along now and I often worry that she will have them on my bed when I'm sleeping, even though I am a light sleeper.  I have had many fosters that have snuck out the first baby or so without me knowing, even when I'm sleeping in the same room.

Advice here may be redundant, but not meant to be offensive, these are really passionate people who care a lot about saving kitties :)

Yes actually I did read everything. I was just pointing out that taking temps can be dangerous if you don't know what you are doing and that it stresses cats out.

And she could have been spayed right after she got outside, thus never having this litter, they can be spayed up until a certain point in the pregnancy.

You've also ignored any good advice on getting your male neutered asap apparently? Entire boys spray, and once it's a habbit it's not always broken, disgusting to have in a home this is aside from the risks to your girl getting pregnant again.
