I have a 2 year old rescue cat who lives with me. Recently, an orphan appeared out of nowhere and took up residence under my house. Two weeks ago, I was persuaded to climb under to find out if the crying kitten was sick. It turned out to be semi-feral. It won't let me near, at all.I spent a week feeding it and moving the bowl closer and closer to my front door, but the kitten never eats while I watch and runs if I approach.Yesterday, it came inside the first tune and that's when I realized I have a huge problem. The while time it was inside, it cried and tried to approach my cat, who hissed and finally spat at it before running off.The same thing happened today. I'm pretty sure the orphan thinks my cat is family and my cat thinks the orphan is an intruder.I need help here. My wife has no patience, my daughter is four and unable to help, I work 60 hours a week and can't devote the time to protecting this orphan.I thought of trapping it, but I'm afraid of scarring it. It needs a doctor for at least the booster shot but I heard doctors don't deal with feral cats.

Well, it needs to be trapped. It will be scared but the benefits outweigh the scary part. If you rent or get a Havaheart trap when the cat gets in it you cover them. They settle down much better. I have trapped over a 100 cats and it is okay. If the cat is neutered it may settle down your indoor cat, plus it can't breed.

Yes, a vet check up is never wrong. That is what we always recommend. Including some deworming and deparasiting. Before it you dont really want the kitten inside and be best pal with your resident.

True, you must find a vet who is used to ferales. but many are.

You write 60 hours working so you cant do protection.  Against what?

If you mean you dont have time to foster him properly, you know the saying, if you want to have something done, whom you shall ask?  The best is to ask someone who is busy.  So it will get done.  :)

And dont worry, if the kitten is young, and voluntarily tries to come inside, a fostering shouldnt be impossible even for an amateur.

Your resident will surely warm up to him with time, when the newbe gets smells from your home and such.

But you perhaps hope to find some other rescuer who does have the time, possibility and patience?

You mention trap. Yes, is many variants it will be the best way. They dont get scared by it, the opposite. NEXT time you use a trap may be more difficult, but not trapping as such.

Last, but not least, for now.

You say orphan, but how old is it?   If it is not a little kitten any longer, you may perhaps want your tread moved into the Ferales  Forum?

You will get advices from both places (I for one are on both these forums), but if the problems are mostly because of his feralness...

Keep us updated!
