day 2 of no sleep.  i had originally thought that sammy was in heat, even though she is so young, but now i am beginning to wonder.  i just lay in bed for 3 hours with my head phones on really loud to drown out the meows but i could still hear them.  the music was too loud for me to sleep to, so i just gave up trying to sleep and left the bedroom.  now she is quiet.  she seemed quiet most of the night after i got home from work unless i had to go in my bedroom for something, then she would meow after i left the room.  when i went to bed it was non stop yowling.  so now i have peace and quiet, but can't sleep sitting up.  so she seems to be reacting to me being in the room.  any ideas on how to keep her quiet so i can get some sleep?  i don't work well on no sleep.

Oh dear, yes, you must get your sleep. I am confused - so just clarify. Does Sammy sleep in your bedroom? Where, in a crate? SO she stops meowing when you leave the bedroom? And only starts meowing at you when you are IN the room?

I do think she is still adjusting to her new environment and this mewing at night will cease once she is feeling more comfortable and safe. For sure, this will pass  I will check your other thread because I can't keep everything straight in my mind at the moment :lol3: So I can't remember if Sammy is a feral rescue or not. :doh3: BUT maybe let her sleep in your bed if she is trusting of you, or leave her loose in the room :dk: Also, I also do think it is partially her hormones taking over along with her fear of this new life. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

OK, now I am up to speed. First, you might want to stick to one thread so it will be easier for people to help and advise you. Anyway, I do think that you should take Sammy to the vet as soon as possible. I am sure the yowling is just because she is frightened, especially at night when it is dark. She has never been in a house before, I am sure, so she is really worried. What a sweetie, I do think the meowing will pass. But please do take her to the vet for a full check-up. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

she has free roam of my bedroom, but spends most of her time in hiding.  if i had the money i would take her to the vet and get a full workup and have her spayed, but don't have the money right now.  if i'm not so tired after work tomorrow i will call some vets.  do you think it will make her fear worse if i take her to the vet while she is still getting used to living inside and is still hiding?

So she is feral? Can you check Cragislist for pet information..here in Seattle where I live there are rescues that give vouchers for very low cost or free spay/neuters. If you can't get anywhere with that call the local Humane Society's and see if there are days where services are reduced. Check your local papers and so on. I trap and get to clinics ferals and strays to be neutered and spayed. For people with the low income there are any number of free places to go and people just don't do it. At least that's the case here. Good luck with your search..but please look around..check the bulletin boards at PetCo..if you have such a place. I don't know where you live.

thanks.  i will do that.  we had a break through last night.  i went to bed and she climbed up on the bed.  we had some good petting and play time, but she was still yowling.  she was all over me and in my face, the whole time purring up a little storm.

Don't worry about her losing trust in her if you take her to the vet. In fact, the opposite will be true, she will bond more closely with you for sure. AND you will be the one taking her back to her safe home. I would also, as Iris said, make calls to local TNR organizations and/or google low cost spay/neuter clinics. There are many where I live and I hope that will be the same for you. Should not cost you much at all. Glad to hear she was snuggling with you on the bed. Each day progress will be made :bigthumb: :vibes::vibes:

There might be some resources for you here:
