I had a kitty pile for about 5 seconds!!

I was leaning back on the couch when Abby decided she wanted to cuddle. So she stepped onto my chest and settled down near my head/neck so that I could hug her with my left arm, give her back massages with my left hand,  and give her pets and head scritches with my right hand..

I was sitting next to the arm of the loveseat and Katie decided that she wanted in on the action.  She stepped from the window sill onto the loveseat and onto the arm and kept bumping her head against my hand as I gave Abby head scritches.  So I alternated petting Abby and Katie.

The next thing I realize is that Katie is stepping onto me too and nudging herself against Abby and Abby wasn't moving away or swatting at Katie.  Katie settled down right next to Abby and put her head on Abby's back and Abby didn't mind!  She kept purring and enjoying her head scritches.

I started to pet Katie's head and ears with my left hand.

And then suddenly the phone rang!

The whole cuddle episode with both Abby and Katie lasted about 5 seconds or so! But what a 5 seconds it was!  It was an absolute first since Spencer and Katie came to live with us in January 2011!

When Katie first came she wanted so much to cuddle and play with Abby. But Abby just didn't want any part of it. She wasn't mean to Katie, but she made it known that cuddles were off limits.

This morning I noticed that all 3 were actually playing chase with each other.  And that Katie and Abby had been wrestling a little bit. At least I think it was playful because there were no hissing or howling/screaming sounds like there was with Abby and Chynna. And after Katie and Abby wrestle Katie takes off down the hall into the living room with Abby fast on her tail chasing her.

I don't know if I have my hopes set to high, but I think Abby is starting to become a buddy to Katie.

Kitty piles are the greatest joy on earth.

When Banshee was alive, she was always the center of our piles. She'd flop somewhere and, soon, the others would be flopped around her. Since she's gone, we don't see the kitty piles that we used to see. When it's colder, Boo, Whisper, and Bootser will cuddle together. Sometimes, but it's rare, Ms. Pepe will cuddle with them, too. Pepe has gotten less independent as she's gotten older. Amber was never a cuddler.

But neither Mollipop or Tabby like to cuddle with the other cats, although they will both cuddle with me in bed. I have a feeling that, once the other cats are gone, we will have no more kitty piles. And that will make us very sad.

Awwww, kitty pile!  I love it when Swanie is on me in bed (he lays on me lengthwise, usually from my lower stomach down over my legs) and Cindy decides to get on my chest.  It doesn't usually last too long, but it's cuter than anything.  It's like a kitty blanket.

Abby loves to lay on top of me when I'm reclined on the couch.  Katie loves to lay on top of me when I'm laying in bed.  Spencer likes to lay lengthwise pressed up against me in bed.

Banshee was always flopped on top of me when I was on the couch. Whether I was reading or watching a movie, she was right there. And after she passed, that was one of the things I really missed....not having her there.

Mollipop, for some reason, has decided that my tummy is a very good place to lay!  Now, when I'm lying on the couch, it's not long before she jumps up and flops down on top of me. She starts to purr and soon, she's napping. I just love having her lay on me. I've missed that so much.

Well no further kitty piles to report.  But I have noticed Abby and Katie wrestling and playing chase, and she doesn't immediately move away when Katie comes to lay down near her, which I notice she has been trying to do more lately.

Abby still hasn't taken too Spencer though.  When he comes near her she sits proudly and stares him down, at which point my boy is starting to learn to lay down and roll over, something Katie learned long ago with Abby.

Abby is definitely the Queen in this household. Which I'm happy to see, because when it was just her and Chynna, Chynna was the Queen kitty and used to bully poor Abby.  At least Abby is acting like a Regal Queen instead of a mean Dictator like Chynna did.
