Hi all!

I have 2 litters of kittens right now - 5 weeks old, and 7 weeks old.  I have never had kittens in the spring/summer before (only autumn litters).  We've been having some 80-90 degree days recently and I'm not sure what to do.  I know they can regulate their body temperatures now, so they don't NEED warm environments like when they were younger, but is it better for them to be in the warmth, or in air conditioning?  I don't want them to be too cold, either.

Thank you!

Lotsa of water is most important. Have several dishes around, not just one.  If you have a water fountain, good, although not necessary by itself.

Otherwise, if you have access to air conditioning, I would say, better air conditioning then the raw heat.  :)

Good luck!

I rarely use air conditioning with kittens and had a few summer litters in much warmer than 90 degrees, so long as they are comfortable and not panting at all they'll be fine.

When I brought King Arthur and Morgan La Fays pregnant mom, Genevieve in it was not only for her protection but comfort, as well.. It was in the triple digits and mid summer.  However, much she liked the A/C she wanted her babies to have a nice, cozy, just right, cave like place for her babies... Not too warm.  Not too cool, either.  So, I put her in a large pet taxi with clean blankets and over the pet taxi, a black cover with a slit over the open door so she could go in and out and still feel her babies were "covered".... Not near an A/C vent either.  She was quite happy with this.  Never moved them.
