Hi all!  I was the one that posted a week ago regarding the oozy-eyed kitten.  It turned out he had blocked tear ducts and an infection.  The vet gave him a wash, drops and amoxicillin by mouth.  That was Thursday.  Today, I noticed his poop was not as firm as usual?  It wasn't watery but it was a sort of toothpaste consistency.  Is this the normal consistency it should be because he definitely strained less and (sorry to get graphic) it didn't smell as bad as when we first got him.  He's been drinking lots more water on his own (he was getting syringed due to mild dehydration).  Or is it possibly a side effect of the antibiotics?  In either case, what should I do?  He's eating fine, playing fine, his eye looks fantastic if that makes any difference.

Thanks!

Was a fecal done when you took him the vet?  If so and it came back normal it certainly could be the antibiotics.  Antibiotics deplete the good flora from the digestive tract and it needs to be replaced with probiotics.  You could get a can of organic pumpkin or sweet potatoe and give him a tiny bit mixed in with his food. Make sure it is plain, organic pumpkin not the stuff you make pies with that you find in your average store.  You can find this stuff either at a holistic pet store or a natural grocery store.

I'd recommend picking up some probiotic capsules from a health food store and mixing a pinch into some wet food twice a day.
