Hello there! I really need help with a stray cat. Me and my family have a close bond with him and we don't want to lose him or bring him to the vet. He's really sick and we are afraid they will say that he has to be put down. We don't believe that that is necessary yet. He has a strong desire to live because of what we do for him. Please hear me out and try to help with the knowledge you have!

Here are the problems he has:

-possibly had frostbite on his front paws and the skin keeps growing

-possible mites because he loves when we pet/scratch his ears

-stool is looks fine

-appetite is not normal because he is very skinny

-sometimes drinks a huge amount of water, but he does drink water on a regular basis

-has a hard time grooming himself/dirty

-loss of hair in some parts of him body/scratched in the patches of visible skin

-respiratory problems

-very weak

These are the majority of the things. I have some pictures here. If there is any other suggestion you have, please do leave it here. I REALLY need the help and so does him. He doesn't want to die just yet, so please. I really need help.

(I know this is a tumblr link, but this is the only way you can view the pictures. Just click the pic for a bigger view)

I'm sorry but that cat desperately needs to be seen by a vet. You say you don't want to lose him, you're going to if you don't get him help and soon.

I'm sorry if I sound too harsh.

The vet will do a full exam on him and advise you from there, they cannot force you to put him down.

What are you feeding him and how much? Can you give him some NutriCal to help get some extra calories into him? It may help a bit with the weakness and the weight problem. If you can get some l-lysine you can mix it in with wet food and see if he'll eat that. It may help with the respiratory problems, depending on what the cause is. He may have mites, but it could also be fleas or from fighting. He most likely has worms. You need to get him to the vet, he probably needs antibiotics, parasite treatment and definitely something done about his feet.

Okay, I guess I'll do that. I'm just afraid of what they will do to him. I don't want to come back with him and have him freaking out and then run away forever, but he needs to get better, so I'll will bring him to the vet. I feed him some Friskies, Purina One dry cat food, and some different types of lunch meats. I'll definitely try what you have recommended.

Try to bring him in while you're caring for him with the vet, he'll more than likely need daily medication and his paws will probably have to be kept clean after his feet are taken care of. You could keep him in a large dog crate if you don't have a spare bathroom or bedroom that he can be kept in. In all likelihood, he's not going to be moving around much. With keeping him outside, you risk infection, fighting, etc while he's being treated.

For this cat to get better it really is not an option on whether or not to take him to the vet. He needs it. I hope he comes out feelin' alright good luck.

I'll probably do a large dog crate. I don't really have any spare places for him, so yeah. I'll be sure once we start having him treated to keep him safe and in a good environment. Thank you very much for the advice!

Vets tend to be very compassionate. This is your outdoor kitty, really. So why would they treat him any differently than someone's indoor pet?

I DO understand your fear. :hugs: But for many indoor pet cats, a trip to the vet is very stressful. And your home is his home! Yes, it's stressful for him - for any of them. But he gets love, food and care there. In fact, he may well appreciate your efforts in getting him fixed up. We've yet to have a feral cat bolt and not come home after having been to the vet. :cross:

But caring for ferals, our vets know how important they are to us. Whenever they need care, they go to the vet. :heart3:

Please keep us posted! And vibes for you and your boy. :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:

Were you able to get him to the vet yet?  I sure hope your little kitty will be okay.

As for him taking off and not trusting you ever again, it is possible, BUT like LDG says often times sick strays/ferals come to you for help and if you provide it, they will love you forever.

I have a feral cat who was very very injured and I was scared he would take off after the vets, but in fact he is now friendlier than a puppydog and is my pet (and I think he loves me just a little bit more then my own resident kitties {don't tell}).

Good luck!

Okay! I'm hoping my vet will be compassionate like you said. I'm just afraid because even though I know they try to help, the last time I brought in my own little kitty, they gave us medication that made her very scared. Her eyes were always dilated and it was like she was high while she was on the medication. Me and my family became so concerned, we researched more about the med and the side affects were terrifying. We stopped the med immediately and that just kind of changed our view on the vet. We weren't sure how caring they were considering how the med went, but we are still going to go over the week despite this. I will be sure to keep you updated!

Not yet, but like I said earlier, I will be bringing him to the vet this week.

I'm sure he won't run off at this point. ^__^

Thank you very much!

Just saw this and looked at the pictures. I totally agree that your cat needs the vet and right away. Don't refuse to get medical attention for this cat because you don't think you can handle the news!!!! I think you will feel much worse if you just let this cat go on like this - he doesn't look comfortable. That huge growth on the foot pad looks very painful and could possibly be something very serious or something very simple - but a vet will be able to tell you. I can't even imagine how the cat can walk around with that. :sniffle: I am glad you are taking this cat in - please keep us posted. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
