Hey all, got a question about our kitty. We adopted a 3 year old American shorthair named Rue about 2 weeks ago. She was cleared by the shelter as healthy with only two broken canines and a fused hip. She gave birth to a litter as a stray and her hip healed improperly before rescue found her.

Ever since we brought her home, she'll sleep and have what looks like a seizure and sometimes pee but what confused our vet is that instead of continuing the seizure, as soon as we pet her, she calms down. Vet did blood work and there wasn't anything abnormal. We don't have the money for the X-rays and urine test yet so wanted to find out if anyone knew anything about it. She eats and drinks water normally. Vet said she is slightly dehydrated but nothing to worry about. Only stress she has here is our 19 month old daughter that will rarely run at her. Other than that kitty and our daughter usually snuggle together.

Thanks and feel free to ask anything.

You didn't say how often the seizures happen or how long they last. The calming down when patted is puzzling. If the vet did bloods he/she surely checked kidney and liver enzymes to make sure they are functioning properly.  I would say it might be neurological but again, the calming down when being petted... hmmm...  It might be many, many things and it may be nothing.  The urine has me bothered too.  Does it happen every time she has a nightmare episode or just now and then?  I'm anxious to see what others say about this.  I hope you can get her back for more testing if this continues.  Sending my best vibes and good on you for adopting Rue!!!

It seems to happen about once every other day. Today we noticed when she got up there was a spot of urine, about the size of a button. She doesn't do it every time but about half the time. They did do liver tests and everything came out normal. The vet said he noticed the stomach a bit enlarged and it could be retained fluid but until we get the x-ray and urine test, he won't know. We have to wait til my next paycheck to get the rest of it done for her. She doesn't seem like in any pain or anything atleast. Still playful, sleeps a lot, eats her wet/dry food, drinks water. Awesome cat though! We do love her and I definitely love that my allergies are all but gone with her.
