This may be a dumb question I feel I SHOULD do this.

I work for someone who works for a vet - both disagree giving a feral antibiotics due to them having a higher immune system and doing so would interfere and cause problems in the future.   ???

One of my ferals has both ears ripped opened in the back - just nasty wounds which i know is killing him.  HIs ears are attached btw - it can only be seen from the back.  Theyve been like this for about 3 weeks now.  I dont often see him.  When I do sometimes they look a little better - but this am one was freshly bleeding - not pouring out at all - just neither are healing!!!!

I tried feeding him wet food and taking a cleaning solution to the area with a sterilized paintbrush - he was not going to allow that.

So should I get him antibiotics?  I would never forgive myself if he dies from infection.

I also have tried trapping him several times in the past - so getting him to the vet is impossible for sure.

THANKS!!!!

I would think the risk of giving him an antibiotic is far less than the risk of not giving it to him. The antibiotic might kill some good bacteria in his gut, but that can easily be replaced with some fortiflora or similar product mixed in with his food.

I dont know what fortiflora is - but they do get diatomaceous earth in their food daily.

Fortiflora is like activa yogurt for cats. Contains good bacteria to help repopulate the gut after antibiotics, and also used regularly to help with digestion.

I would try to trap him and get him to a vet, if at all possible. :cross; BUT if not, and you can be assured that he will eat the food that contains the antibiotic, then I would do the meds. Most times they will not eat the food - they can smell something off. Fortiflora would be excellent to use in this case because it will help maintain gut flora and at the same time acts as an appetite stimulant. All cats go nuts for the stuff. You can order it online from Amazon or from your vet. Adding the Fortiflora to the food - sprinkled on top - will get him eating the wet food with the meds mixed in. Don't use too much wet food - only enough to get him to finish the medication. This will only work if you know he will come and eat at the same time each day and that there are no other cats around to eat the medicated food. Very tricky. Mega vibes for you feral cat. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Oh... :lol3: there is never a dumb question... sometimes our answers feel dumb too  But we do try. :D

I trap ferals and I get antibotic from a rescue. I have put antibotics in their food and they eat it every time.
