Hi I just joined today. I'm looking for help, advice and maybe some friends. I've had cats for most of my life, but may have bitten off more than I can chew recently. Currently we have two one year old males who we adopted when they were about 8wks old. Mint Berry and Dazy, brothers. About 3 weeks ago we found a mom and 6 kittens in our shed. Given the crazy weather we took them in so we now have them too. We've decided to keep two of them and possibly the mom, since adult cats are hard to place. We have a possible home for one and hopefully we can find good homes for the rest. To be honest if I had the room and money to feed them I would just keep them all, but right now everything is kind of crazy.
Mom and the kitten have been kept separate from the boys since I really don't know about moms background or if she has anything wrong with her, not to mention she's very protective of the kittens. So hopefully everything will work out in the end.
I've never taken care of a mommy and kittens so I've got lots of questions. Mainly, and this probably isn't the place but, does anyone know of a group or non-profit in NY that helps people who've taken in strays with vet bills. Animal Charities is a local one, that my husband's aunt runs, but they work off donations and when there are no donations then it comes out of his aunts pocket and I know she doesn't have the money to help us right now. When they're ready she's going to take momma and the kittens to be spayed or neutered for us at a clinic at least I hope she will she did with the boys.
