How far along is she?

Can anyone tell me how far along she may be? She adopted us 3 weeks ago, so we know nothing about her history/behavior pre-pregnancy. I am anxiously awaiting our babies. Thanks.

It is always difficult to know exactly. The waiting game and all that. Only good way to have a clue is to know then they mated. Do you feel the babies moving?

Welcome to our Forums!

Good luck!

Yes, I've been able to feel them for a while now.

they say about 2 weeks before, you can feel the babies move.

It is of course no exact science.   :)

Like StefanZ says, it's really different for everyone. While I was waiting for my female to pop I read the 'average' is that you can feel them 2-3 weeks before labor and see them moving without touching her 1-2 weeks before labor. With my female, who is normally a teeny tiny thing at 5 pounds, I was able to feel them moving about 4 1/2 weeks before she gave birth and able to see them moving around in her about 4 weeks before she gave birth. So it's definitely different for all cats. She ended up weighing 10.4 pounds right before she gave birth to 6 kittens!

Ahh, these pregnant cats are so good at finding people to adopt them.  I had one follow me home and walk right in like she belonged in my home and knew everyone.  I would guess by the nipples that she is very close due to the lack of hair around them.  Is she nesting?

I think she's nesting. She wanders around the house checking everything out, but then again, she's new to us, so it may be normal behavior.

Awe in so glad you took her in. Just from looking at the picture she looks like she is close, I would be expecting them in the next week maybe 2 tops, but don't quote me on that. There are signs to look for but I have found with my rescues that some don't even show any signs... I checked on one girl who I was expecting kittens from once, she was eating and then went into the tub where she had been hanging out for a few weeks, and went to sleep. 2 hours latter i came back expecting nothing and she was pushing out the first kitten.

If you can, I try to get my rescues to the vet before they have their kittens to test them for FIV/FeLV and deworm them and get a safe flea treatment. These things are easier to take care of before the kittens are born, but it is perfectly fine if you do wait to take her to the vet, now she at least has a safe warm place to have them and plenty of yummy food.

Now she is laying in her litter box. Any idea why she would do that?

Could she be hot?  The cat litter may be cool on her fur, being so pregnant may be causing her to be hot?

Typically laying the litter box tends to be a thing for comfort to be in their own scent. She could be laying there because she is uncomfortable, or she could be picking a nest and that already smells like her. Being hot is a possiblilty, my pregnant girls often seek out the coolest spot on the tile floor. Hopefully she doesn't decided to have kittens in there. Are you using non-clumping litter? If not it would be a good idea to switch to it and don't switch back until the kittens are older, they try to eat it before they learn to go in it.
