First off, we are trying to get Simba in to the vet this afternoon.

Anyway, Since earlier this morning, Simba has been acting like there's something wrong with his leg. He will spin around a little bit, cry out, limp a little, and go somewhere to lay down. He's done this three times so far. He appears to jump fine, walk fine other than the brief episodes, and doesn't react to his legs being touched. I don't know if he's hiding something or what. Also, his gums are pale and he didn't pee much the last time he was in the litter box. I don't know if that's relevant. On the phone the vet mentioned arthritis, but Simba's only 2.5 years old. Anyone have any ideas I should have in mind before getting to the vet?

I really don't know much about medical stuff, but frankly this seems really serious and I would stress the urgency to the vet.  His symptoms don't seem like arthritis, at least they don't match what those are in humans.  Pale gums is another scary (to me) symptom.

I hate to suggest it, but saddle thrombosis.  If you suspect this, get your cat to an animal hospital ASAP if you cannot get to your normal vet.  This is a very serious condition in which a blood clot can lodge in the cat's blood line to the back legs.  Google this and see what you find.

Sorry I cannot be of more help.  I have only read about this condition, but know it is usually deadly and very painful for your kitty.  They often bite at the area because it hurts so much.

I hope I am wrong, but I know if my kitty was showing these signs, I'd be doing my best to get to the vet without getting a speeding ticket.

I've know two people who experienced saddle thrombosis in their cat and they talked about them screaming in pain non-stop. However, just in case you might want to see if your vet allows drop-off which means they will see him between appointments, and you will feel better knowing he is in a place where he can get immediate help.

I have a three year old cat with arthritis in one front limb. It can happen when they are young.
