Delilahs not doing well today. She has been lethargic and is not eating on her own. We are syringe feeding again. I tried to get her into the vet today before they closed but they were booked solid. We have an appointment at 8am first thing when they open. If she gets any worse overnight I will take her to the emergency vet. Her nose has a giant scab where all the tissue fell off. I am just hoping it is not infected or something. I think it is blocking her nostrils some as she is breathing more through her mouth tonight. Hopefully I can get back the happy playful kitten that she had become. I have hopes that this is only a little set back and she will be back to playing in no time. The next 12 hours are going to have me worried for my sweet little baby.

Now that I fixed the internet on my computer here are updated pictures so you can see what has been going on

The day before it all fell off

when it officially came off

her foot now

I went to take a picture off her big scab but she seems to have scratched it off

From looking at the latest photos, I'm guessing your small cat has a case of flesh eating bacteria.

Her nose is getting better, that last picture is from Saturday. I don't think she has a flesh eating bacteria she has been to the vet plenty of times with it and neither of the vets that have been treating her have said anything.

Report from the vet. Delilah has a some ulcers in her nose, as well as the fact that her nostril on one side is deformed now and they both are clogged a bit. She cant smell her food so that is why she is not eating. She is having a bit of a tough time breathing. So we are making sure she gets a vaporizer treatment a few times a day. She also is getting her nose cleaned out every time she eats to make sure she is not getting food stuck up there. The vet took the needle out of a syringe so it squirts a nice thin stream that fit perfectly up her nose. She is not as thrilled about this though. There is still swelling and we are going to monitor it, the vet will but her on steroid drops if it does not go down, but she is concerned that if it is a virus that is causing the bit of congestion that she has that it will just get worse. So we will just keep managing the way we are, and will do a check up latter if needed. Little girl is such a fighter and has been through so much. She has been treated by 2 different vets, the last time it was one vet and then this time it was the other each hadn't seen her since she was really bad off and were both shocked that she was still going and getting stronger.

As far as getting food up her nose the vet recommended getting canned food that has chunks instead of a pate. The girls have both been eating a/d. What would be a good food to feed her to help her keep gaining weight, it can be expensive because a/d food is almost $2 a can.

Here are a few new pictures of her nose too. Sorry they are a bit blurry. The vet thinks her nose will permanently be deformed.

napping in my lap... She has the right idea, I might join her it is a yucky rainy day with the tropical storm coming through, perfect napping weather.

I think her nose looks a bit better.  Warming her food might help, really smelly food might help, and steroid drops might will improve her appetite.  She's such an adorable little thing1

The food is warmed, her appetite was great before so I do think it has a lot to do with being able to smell it. After cleaning out her nose again and treating her with the vaporizer her nose must have been clear enough to smell a bit as she ate a some on her own. If in a few days if her nose is not better and she is still having issues the vet will re-look at using steroids.

I think she is super cute myself!
She is becoming quite popular at the vet.

AWWW what a cutie, seriously... I think the nose looks SOOOO much better!!!! AND yes, she is just adorable. I think her nose will heal up nicely, maybe not look totally normal. But I just adore her little face. It looks like the nostril might be alright too :cross: I hope she continues to fight and thrive :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

I'm so glad she is doing well and that the scab has fallen off finally, and naturally. She is very cute looking and it looks like she is making a muffin with her paw while lying in your lap.

As this Best Friends video says, we need to embrace our body quirks:

Delilahs little nose seemed to be a little more closed today and she was breathing harder today than yesterday. After talking to the vet and asking a bunch of questions we decided to give her steroid drops for her nose. There is a risk that because it is an immunosuppressant that she could get sicker but with her nose closing off slowly with swelling and ulcers it is best that we try to correct that so she can breath easier, and eat better.

Sometimes she seems to like me where she is following me around and sitting at my feet. I think she dreads me too though because I do lots of stuff to her she doesn't like, like give her medicine that makes her gag, I used to have to wrap her in a towel when I was syringe feeding her, now that she eats she is sometimes such a mess I give her  quick bath, and I squirt saline up her nose, and now drops. I think she knows I am only doing it to help her, but she still doesn't like it.

I love her even with her funny nose. I had someone tell me I should just put her down. I was offended and informed them that I didnt care what she looked like as long as she was healthy and happy in the end. If she is willing to keep going so am I. They thought I was stupid for this and that as someone who rescues I should spend my time and money on adoptable kittens. Clearly they don't get what rescuing is, plus she is more than welcome to permenently stay with me, I have actually let the thought cross my mind a few times.

Hopefully adding these steroid drops will help her get back to feeling good again.
She's making good progress, judging by your photos.  *PRAYERS* and thoughts of healing and wellbeing for her, continually!
Thanks she can always use them. She is a fighter thats for sure.

I really think she will make it out of this ok, she is a tough little thing.  Just be careful to use distilled or purified bottled water to rinse her nostrils.  There have been people who died from using tap water in netti pots which introduced brain eating amoeba into the brain.

No worries, I am rinsing her nose with saline. The vet gave me some and if/ when I run out I have Little Noses that I will use.

Poor baby. Sending her more strong healthy

Your story reminds me of a member who was here several years ago. She doesn't come on now, but she popped in a year or so ago to let us know how they were doing. I think she was from Croatia?.

She had a sickly kitten just like you and came here for help, and boy did that little girl fight it just like yours!!

GOOD ON YA for valuing each individual living being and cherishing this little treasure! (I won't get started on what I think of, and wish for, that insensitive moron who made the stupid comment.  That person quite obviously has major problems.)   I sure hope that she continues to work her magic on you and that she finds a place in your home and heart "for always".
