Hello,

I had my cat Sadie spayed on Tuesday - May 15th. The vet said there was no complications during surgery. On Friday - May 18th, I called the vet, because I noticed that she had some greenish colored discharge. They told me she had a reaction to the cleaning solution they used on her after her spay, and they gave her an antibiotic shot and said that it should start clearing up soon. Today when I went and looked at it, I noticed a nasty spot on her incision site, and I'm not sure if it is normal or not. It might be just a scab, which would be great! It just looks unusual to me and I haven't seen anything like this before, but maybe I'm just being paranoid.

I just wanted some opinions from people who have had their cats spayed before and know what to look for, because I have no idea. She doesn't appear to be in any pain or discomfort and is her normal self, unlike the past 4 days...which is leading me to believe its just a scab, but I'm still concerned.

May 16th -

May 17th -

May 18th -

May 20th - (WARNING THIS ONE IS NASTY)

It kind of looks like a scab from that picture.  Perhaps a section reopened?.  If your regular vet doesn't seem to hear your concerns, I'd suggest a 2nd opinion with another vet.  We had issues with our cat Molly following her spay where she needed some of the incision re-closed.  Keep us posted!.

It does look like a scab, but it also looks like she has been licking her belly a lot. My Ella did this after her spay and she went on antibiotics just to make sure it didn't get infected, and I put neosporn on it to help it heal. I would talk to the vet again just to make sure there is nothing wrong though that is a pretty big spot and it does look red around it.

Thank you for the responses. I will be calling the vet in the morning to see if I can get her in sometime.

She started licking the spot after surgery, and she's been wearing a cone ever since, so she can't touch it anymore.

Thanks for asking! :-) She is doing much better. It was just a scab, it came off and I've been applying neosporin to help it heal faster.

I was going to say it was probably a scab.  I had a similar issue with Swiffer and it nearly made me crazy with worry.  Took her back and was reassured by the vet and she was fine a few days later.  Glad that is all it was ;)
