I have tried not to get involved in discussions regarding the recall because I feel horrible about it.  Cats are getting sick, people are getting sick and it is a terrible situation. I also work for a competitor to the brands affected so I did not want to come off as biased because I'm not.  I just hate this thing and I'm terrified it will wind up like another '07 debacle.  But I think I have to at least post this. A second plant here in Missouri has been shut down due to salmonella.  I don't have all the specifics as of yet but will be researching it as info comes available.  http://www.truthaboutpetfood.com/articles/diamond-plant-2-salmonella.html

I seldom see eye to eye with Susan Thixton but she is spot on regarding this issue.  One would think the pet food industry would learn their lessons.  Just makes me more thankful that Nutro makes their own food and has all the safety checks in line.  The preliminary FDA report was mind boggling to read and raises a LOT of questions.

Thank you, Mike :hugs:... Is this a coincidence or not?!!!! Not sure. Last night my dog Wilbur who has many health issues which I won't get into here, was very sick from eating my SIL's dog food - Solid Gold Wolf King adult :eek:hno: He never vomits and has been on a raw diet for breakfast since last Fall. He also gets Epigen kibble at night. He has also been getting treated holistically with homeopathics and has had a complete turnaround in the last few weeks. I have been the happiest I have been in over eighteen months with him. He finally has an appetite and I don't have to force feed him or hand feed him anymore. Last night we went to my SIL's house where she leaves Solid Gold dog food out. I was happy to see Wilbur chowing down on the food. Well - he vomited four or five times over night and this morning. Lost his appetite again :bawling: Laurie told me just today that there was a recall on Solid Gold dog food. I called my SIL and found out that her dog has been sick for a few weeks too vomiting. :nervous: I informed her of the recall as well.

Wilbur did eat dinner but it took some coaxing. He has not vomited since last night and early this morning. I called his vet and we talked. He told me that it was good that Wilbur vomited up the food - who knows IF it was the Wolf King OR that he just over ate. Somehow I think the food was bad. I just want people to know to NOT take these recalls lightly and make sure you know what your pet is eating. I learned my lesson. :sniffle:

Oh Lauren, I'm so sorry. :hugs: I hope it's just a coincidence. I looked up all the Solid Gold dog food recalled from the SC plant, and MOST of it was shipped to Canada, apparently. But there were some lots they weren't sure where they went. At least Wilbur threw it all up. :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: for Wilbur and your SIL's dogs!

How is Wilbur doing today?  It sure sounds like it is possible he may have been contaminated but who knows.   And you are right.  These recalls are serious issues and we should all heed them.  They are real and animals and humans are getting sick from this last go round.  I hope Wilbur is doing better.  There is really no way to know for sure without a vet visit and salmonella mimicks so many other problems and it passes quickly in most cases so we don't know for sure.

Thanks, Mike and Laurie :hugs:. Wilbur seems to be doing fine, although he has lost his appetite once again :sigh: BUT that could be from the new homeopathics he started the day before he ate the Solid Gold dry at my SIL's house. He only vomited that night so his vet said that IF the food was contaminated - he got it all out. He is doing alright and thank you so much for asking. :D :wavey:

I am SO glad to hear that.  Hopefully he will completely recover without and side effects.

I have sad news about my SIL's dog.... He is in the hospital on IV fluids, and has liver failure or something of the sort. :dk: Don't know the details, but the vet thinks it was either the Solid Gold OR the Costco chicken jerky treats from China. OMG - that explains it for me as to why Wilbur was so sick that night and next morning. I am very, very lucky that Wilbur is alright. OMG THANK YOU GOD!!!!!!!!!!! and all of our angels  :angel3: NOW I need to pray, and pray hard for my SIL's dog. Vet wants to keep him there until next Tuesday - but they want him home for the weekend. Will try to keep you posted. She said she checked her food bags for the recall lot number. I have not heard back from her yet. This IS pretty scary stuff folks.... :shame: :sobbing: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

I am so sorry to hear about your SIL's dog.  I will keep him in my thoughts this weekend.  This pet food recall is so scary.  I cannot believe this keeps happening...

:vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes: for him. I can't believe this nightmare (recalls) has started all over again. I used to feed Solid Gold, and have thrown out a bag of TOTW as a precaution.

Make SURE your sister calls the FDA - this is very important! and you should call too Lauren.... :cross: all is going to be fine :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Ditto!  :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: (I sure hope the Epigen is OK :paranoid: )
Sally, what does Epigen, by Wysong has anything to do with it? Wysong, Epijen is 100% made in the US, on Wysong plants btw, with USDA and FDA approved domestic sources only..... This recall is a Diamond Recall. Then there is the Chicken Jerky from China..... :dk:

It doesn't look good for Waldo. :bawling: :bawling: The ultrasound showed abdominal cancer too. The liver is trashed also probably from the combo of the cancer and the bad food. Lynn is devastated and we are all in shock. Waldo is her heart :heart3: dog like my Wilbur is to me. He is a nine year old Black Goldendoodle. The vet gave him about a week. The whites of his eyes are yellow. Liver failure. :sobbing: Wilbur and henry, my dogs, and Waldo and Jimmy, Lynns dogs are best friends. Many years of get togethers.... Please vibes for Lynn, Waldo and family..... :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

P.s. Laurie, Lynn has contact with Ellen. Ellen did a communication on Lynn's dogs last December. She is going to contact her again, today.

I've looked online at both Petco and Petsmart because nothing has been put back on the shelves for Taste Of The Wild, my babies favorite.... There is nothing online for sale, either.  I looked on Ebay but I am not sure I want to trust it... It could be part of the recall, too?  I am just guessing, I don't know for sure.  I am losing hope day by day that they will be back on the shelves.  Looks like my babies need to suck it up and accept a new favorite food!

You can look at the Nutro line of products if you want to.  I wouldn't ordinarily mention it in this kind of thread but Nutro does make all of it's own food, can trace every ingredient from farm to table and has 600 tests done on each batch before it's released.  Nutro is also 8 times above AAFCO standards and AFIA certified.  You can look at it and see if it's something you might want to investigate.  I was hoping since the '07 recall that we, as pet owners and lovers, would not have to experience this again.  And here we are again.  Look at what is happening to poor Waldo.  I'll bet that family is completely heart broken.  Oh, the site is  http://www.nutro.com/natural-cat-food.aspx

Thanks NutroMike.  I am trying to get them to love Natures Instinct and Blue Buffalo Wilderness as much as TOTW.  There's a place on Ebay in California that wrote me back and said their TOTW's are not part of the recall they are the new batch... But last I heard, they weren't up and running yet?

Feralvr, I am so sorry about Waldo!!  Sorry, I didn't see it before.  I just read the first post.  But, hugs to you during this hard time!
