I took on a pregnant as the owner left her outside and wouldnt feed her or let her have a safe home for her to have her kittens!! yesterday morning she had 5 kittens. She left 1 on the bathroom floor with placenta still attatched so picked up kitten and the placenta and showed her it and she managed to chew the cord like she had done with the 2 that had been born already. all the kittens are feeding fine the only thing thats worrying me is that after she had chewed the cords and ate the placentas she didnt really clean them. i changed the bedding later on as was messy and damp but have woke this morning and looks like she hasnt been helping them go toilet. the blanket is damp again. my cat that had kittens used to lick the genital area to stimulate the to go and used to clean it up but she doesnt seem to be doing this.

it is her first litter and shes a young mum just worried about her not cleaning them but is fine feeding them.

any advice wouldbe great thanks.

For now at least you need to stimulate them to go several times a day, or tempt mum to do so.  Putting a little butter on their behinds and holding them for mum to wash might do it.  Hopefully she will get the idea in a day or two.  Mum would normally do this every time they feed at a minimum.  If they are very messy you could use a warm damp cloth to clean them up a little as well.

Some mums, especially young ones can take a bit of time to properly bond. Is she in a quiet, dark, private location? So she can bond and feel secure.

Do try and stimulate them, to make sure the bladders are empty or as OS suggested.

Also, make sure to weigh them once a day to ensure they are gaining proper weight.

It's not normal to be dripping urine. Some blood for a day or so is normal, urine isn't.

Is she eating properly?  Sounds like she might be unwell.

Yes she's eating fine. I'm not sure if she's abit sore from giving birth as was he 1st time and might be holding it as scared to go toilet? She's acting herself other than that.

I agree. Her not being well may explain why she doessnt  manage to care much about the kittens.

So our advice is you contact a vet.
