I thought about this after reading an article from 2008 where a 24 year old cat was returned to her owners after she had escaped 9 years earlier (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/west_midlands/7610903.stm  if you're interested). When she escaped, she was already pretty old at 15, and surviving another 9 years as a stray is a pretty mean feat. 24 is the oldest cat I've heard of. I know there is a member on here who had a cat turn 23 years old last year, but I'm not sure if that person is still on the site or if her cat is still going strong. I find it amazing that some cats can enjoy such longevity, considering that would be like a human living to be 130. So, what's the oldest cat you have owned, have known because a friend or someone owned them, or have heard about?

When I googled it I came up with the oldest verified age is 38yrs and 3 days. It was a cat named Creme Puff in Austin TX and lived from Aug 3, 1967 until Aug 6, 2005. She was listed in the Guiness records as the oldest living cat until 2004.

Chynna was 18 1/2 when I sent her to the Rainbow Bridge :(

I've talked to people at the Vet's office who have or have had cats that are in their late 20's, and one woman had just had one of her cat's put down that was 30 years old.  The next oldest was 24 years and still going strong.

My Abby is going to be 14 years on June 19th. She still seems to be healthy, but she is over weight.

We let Bogey go last month and he was 21. He was the 2nd oldest patient at our vets office, the oldest was a 23 yo kitty girl.

I can't imagine what a 30 yo kitty is like! WOW.

Niji and Fritzi (my family's first kitties. They were sisters) were 21. They were half Siamese. . .I've heard of more elderly Siamese than other breeds/moggies. A friend had a Siamese that was 23.

Missie, my friend's mostly-Maine Coone kitty was around 20 according to my friend.

However, my aunt's cat Camille is alittle older than that I feel - plus Camille is still alive! No one really knows how old Camille is. She was a stray cat (not kitten) when she was "allowed in" my aunt's house (Then she became a family member)

Our Hydrox, the Old Coot, was 20 when he died from cancer. He developed a large lump in his belly when he was 19 years old. Because we didn't want to operate on him at his age, we developed a wait-and-see attitude. But when the lump started growing, the vet said we'd have to try something. Well, at 19, he survived the operation to remove the lump (he sported three drainage tubes in his belly for about three weeks, but he made it through with flying colors). And he gradually started showing the younger cats (Whisper and Bootser, who are now 18 and our Old Ladies) again that he was, indeed, the boss.

But the lump came back and this time, it was attached to the wall of his stomach. And when it came back, it split into several lumps. And they started growing. At that point, there wasn't anything we could do. We didn't want to put him through another operation, and since they were attached to the wall of his stomach, another operation wasn't really feasible. So when the time came, we said good-bye to our Old Coot. He died at the age of 20 years and five months. We had him from the time he was about five weeks old.

One of my former neighbors had a cat that lived to be 21 or 22 years old.  My RB cat Snowball was the longest living of all my pets.  He had just reached the age of 17 when it unfortunately became necessary to have him pts.  And btw, the pictures you see in my avatar are of Snowball.
