Angel is a 13 year old Siamese.  I always consider her extra special since I have seen her guard my birds from the younger cat (who now knows to leave them alone.)

A vet said she had low iron & was just old, also borderline thyroid.  I give her iron every day and a drop of liquid kelp in the cat water.  Since I started giving the kelp she no longer drinks so much water - wasn't expecting that.  I also saw she seemed to have symptoms of renal disease so started giving her potassium.

I have seen her walk up to the kitty litter box hesitantly as if she just doesn't want to go in it (I change it at least one time per day for the 2 cats) and then pee right on the floor beside it!  Today she even left me a stool right beside the kitty litter, on the carpet!

It occured to me that arthritis might be the problem as she no longer hops up on the bed and doesn't even cover her waste in the kitty litter box anymore.  So I got a large, long, lid and put kitty litter in it, only about 1 inch high.  It hasn't helped really. (I have also been giving her glucossamine/chondroitin/msm & boswelia.)

What is wrong with her?  Why would she want to go right beside the litter but not in it?

I have tried Stain & Stink & covering the surrounding area with paper to disguise any old cat smell, also amonia.  But she doesn't seem to be affected by any of that.

Thanks much for any help!  I've really been praying about this, maybe you will be the answer.

It could definitely be arthritis, since you say she can't jump onto the bed. She probably is in pain and doesn't want to strain herself jumping into the kitty litter box. Lots of love and prayers for you and Angel :vibes: Good luck!

I would talk to the vet about pain relief for her.  It will be obvious very quickly if it's helping as she will be more mobile.
