Hi,

New and hoping someone can help. We have two cats, ages 2 years and 8 weeks - just got the baby a few days ago. We were feeding our indoor, and somewhat chubby adult cat weight control food at our vets prompting but are unsure how to proceed with the new one on board. Since the kitten needs age appropriate food, high fat and all, and our adult cat needs weight control, how do we keep them from eating each other's food and not getting what they need respectively.

They've been introduced and seem to tolerate each other well so we've just today moved the kitten's food dishes downstairs - we were keeping them separate until they acclimated to one another. Of course now, no one wants to eat their own food and we've spent all day trying to redirect.

Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The easiest solution is to take a sturdy cardboard box, cut a hole in it only big enough for the kitten to pass in and out of and weight it down good. Then feed the kitten inside the box. The older cat will try and get into the slot (which is why you weight the box down, but this way you can feed the kitten the required food without incident.
