I've got a part-Maine Coon that has a nasty looking raw spot behind his right ear, he won't leave it alone when it starts to heal and now its pretty bad. I need to know if there is anything i can do to get him to leave it alone, or help it heal faster. he has been treated for ear-mites, he just wont leave it alone.

Any Suggestions?

If he is continuing to scratch his ear even after treatment, then he might have an infection in his ear which will need to be treated by a vet. Anything you buy over the counter won't help unless you know exactly what is wrong with him. If he still has mites or he has an infection, his ear will be itchy which explains why he isn't leaving it alone. It sounds like you need a return trip to your vet.

I have a Maine Coon mix cat and he started getting bald spots on his ears when Spring began. He started to scratch his ears so much he caused them to bleed. The vet says it is seasonal allergies. Maybe your kitty has the same thing?

A great way to stop your cat from tearing up his ears is to use a product called Soft Paws that you can get from the local pet store. They are little plastic caps you can glue over your cat's nails. But be warned, you'll need a friend to help you put them on! It may also take your kitty a few days to get used to the nail caps.

These plastic caps really helped keep my cat from cutting up his ears. And once the old scabs healed (which also caused a lot of the itching) he stopped wanted to scratch his ears.

Or you could get one of those lampshade things that goes around the neck, but I think that will just freak your cat out. Anyway, I hope your cat feels better soon!
