We started feeding a young stray a few weeks ago and its became friendly with us we are not pet people but we dont like to see someting suffer. it turned out to be having kittens, I put a cat bed in an old wendy house and it had them in there. they are now over a week old and she started bringing them in to the house and putting them in strange places like in a bag with paper in it and behind the metors. I have brought her and the kittens in now and made them a bed in the side room  I think something may have scared her in the night.  We are going to keep her and may one of the kittens. the rest cat protection said they would home them when they are old enough

Jolly well done!  Good they are all inside now, so there will be no problems at all with socializing them. The mom too will probably be socialized in the same time, as she did voluntarily brough them inside.

How many are the kittens? What food are you giving her?  Kitten food is best...

Good if you weigh them every day so you see if they gain weight.  If there are any problems, it is the easiest way to spot them.

Take them for weighting respectfully, so the mom sees you and the baby the whole time, and you doing the weighting.  When made, lay the kitten back.  It doesnt take more than a few seconds.

Most moms, even semiferales, do accept it if you do it as described.

One thing more.  Now when they are inside, dont let her back outside. They can get in heat very soon after delivery, and if heat, they want to sneak out for search of males.  And this is very dangerous, many hadnt come back, leaving motherless helpless kittens.

Keep us updated and keep on asking and telling!

Welcome to our TCS site and our Forums!

Good luck!   *vibes*

ps.  I shall ask a mod to move your tread to the Pregnant and Kitten care forum, as your most immediate question will probably be about these kittens and their mother.

Hope it is OK for you!

If you have specific questions about this ex-homeless adult cat, please feel free to ask them in any appropriate forum.  For example in the Strays and Ferales.     :)

"cats protection" - you are in the UK?

They should be wormed and treated against fleas.  You can get Milbemax for mum from the vet now, except you would have to take her, or you can get Panacur paste or liquid on the internet.  The liquid is very messy!  You can also get Frontline on the Internet, or from pharmacies though the Internet is cheaper.

And prepare for Herculean quantities of food and cat litter!  I brought Fresh News from R&L pet products, far cheaper than buying small boxes at the supermarket.

Finally - mum can get pregnant again while still nursing.  She might not like it, but it's best to keep her in until she can be spayed, and most UK vets now want to wait until the kittens are weaned at 10-12 weeks.  She also can't vanish leaving you with tiny and very fragile and dependant kittens to try to care for.
