Hi everyone,

I read a post on this forum stating, that Nature's Variety dog food, is the same formula as the cat food. Thus, I can buy the larger cans, (since the 'cat' version is only sold in 5.5oz cans and 3 oz cans) The dog food can is over 12oz. I want to feed my kitty the rabbit version. Can someone verify if this is true? Obviously, I'd like to save the money if possible, by purchasing the larger can/s. I've put the links for both below. The ingredient lists are identical, but I want to know for sure. I appreciate the help.

That was fast. Thanks a ton. I was hoping I'd get a response quick enough, so I could place an online order tonight. I appreciate it.

I work for Nature's Variety, ONLY the Instinct canned/raw foods are the same. The Homestyle and kibble formulas are different and need to be feed to the appropriate species (cat/dog).

Sign up on the website too, they email out high value coupons every 3-4 weeks.

EVO 95% canned food is the same formula for cats and dog, too. But oddly, the cat food costs less than the dog food! If the one labeled for dogs were cheaper I'd buy it instead.

Of course you can't do this with all foods. There are only a few formulas that are appropriate for both species. The biggest thing is to make sure the food has an adequate amount of taurine before feeding it to a cat.

This is cool. I had the same question. I went to Petco and asked for the raw cat food. I piked up the chicken medallions because Pumpkin is still on regular dry and canned cat food. I just fed him a thawd out piece. He loved it. But he'll eat anything.  my question is, does Natures Variety medallions have all the stuff cats need (Taurine) even though it's made for both dogs and cats?

Yep, Nature's Variety is fine for kitties. It does have a lot of bone (15% instead of the usual 10%), so if you feed it as the sole diet your kitty might get constipated. You can even it out by adding a bit of plain raw meat. That's pretty cool that your PetCo has the raw stuff!

Yes indeed. It's the petco on Foothill in Claremont, CA for anyone who lives in the Inland Empire or San Gabriel Valley portion of Southern Calif.

I was really pleased when I found out the petcos in the area sell it. I thought I would have to order most raw food materials online.
