I'm not sure if this is the right place to share this, or if anybody cares, but I just HAVE to share this!!!

When we found Coal and her sister, they were feral cats whose mom had been poisoned. In two days, my little fur baby will be one year old! About 5 weeks after that, I will have been caring for her for a whole year!

I went looking through old photos of her from when we first got her, and I can't believe how much she's grown! I mean... I can, but I can't! She has been such a joy, and I've loved every minute of being her mommy... and can't wait for the years to come!!!

That is so super!  How feral / young was she when you rescued her?

My friend rescued Ritz the day after Christmas (along with her sister and two brothers) and socialized them; I helped a little. Prior to this time, I'd never been around cats before.  A month later I agreed to "foster" Ritz (her brother was going into heat and friend needed more time to spend with the other cats to socialize them); Ritz had me with her first meow.

I've had her/she's had me (!) for almost two years.  I too have loved every minute being her mommy.  (And I don't have children so she is my baby.)

Best.  Christmas.  Present.  Ever.

Here is surely good place! You give a nice reminder of the joys of rescuing / adopting.

There are many reasons why to do it. Because it is decent to do, because it is a good way to or earn a lot of good karma or shorten your time in the purgatory,

because it is an excellent pastime, a better hobby than say polishing your medals. etc. There are many possible and unpossible reasons.

But the most important reason, is; because of the joy of it, because of the rich rewards you can get already here and now, EVEN if you are very religious and you do it mostly thinking about the afterlife...

Good luck!    *vibes*

Ritz, Coal was about 4-5 weeks old when she and her sister were found. I got her when she was about 5-6 weeks old. We aren't sure of their exact age, but because of their size, we were able to determine that they were born in mid to late May. Thus, I decided to celebrate the birth of my baby on May 15th! Someone must have really disliked her mama being in the apartment complex where they were found. Mama was poisoned and crawled under a dumpster to die.
Coal and her sister, Asher, were very dehydrated and malnourished. The man who found them and his wife brought them home and nursed them back to health. Once they were healthy again, my friend and I went to pick up our new babies. I, too, don't have any children... other than my fur baby!!!
Actually, just weeks before Coal was found, I had learned that I have PCOS. I'm not sure if you are familiar with this, but it makes it hard to have children. It can even lead to more female problems that could cause infertility. This was DEVASTATING for me. Coal has filled my need to love, nurture and raise a creature. She isn't an actual baby... but she works just fine while I try to work out my physical issues. She will always be my "first born". LOL

StefanZ, you are absolutely correct! Raising her has been VERY rewarding. I look at her now and remember when we first got her. So small and fragile, barely hanging on to life. About a week after we got her, she got really really sick. Again, she was dehydrated, but this time she was running a really high fever as well. She was almost hospitalized. She faced death twice before she was two months old. And to look at her now, so fluffy, so agile, so healthy, so beautiful, so full of life and joy.... I know it's because of the life I gave her, the atmosphere I provided for her, the love and the care that she has received. The snuggles she lends, the purrs she gives, and the sweetest little meows and hugs and kisses are the ways she shows her love and gratitude for giving her a much better life than what she was facing! I wouldn't trade that little girl for the world!!!!!

Feralvr, I'm so happy that you remember Coal. You have been my favorite person here since my first day. (Not that I frequent this place that much, but I'm going to try to be better this time around... now that I know a little bit more about kitties.) You are always so supportive and give the best advice! You gave me some pretty good advice when Coal got sick that first week or two. You are friggen awesome, and I'm glad you are on this site!!

I'm not sure how much you remember... but we used to think Coal was a boy. SURPRISE!!! She's not. We were beginning to wonder about her because her little things never dropped. We were kind of in denial, thinking that maybe getting sick so often when she was little had stunted her growth... on different levels. I came home from work one night, and my boyfriend was like, "Babe... I think something is wrong with The Boy. He won't stop moaning!" So I went looking for him/her, and there she was in the kitchen, moaning, sticking his butt in the air, rubbing up against things... rolling on the floor... back legs twitching! I thought, "OH NO! He's sick again! Something is seriously wrong! Is he having a seizure?" Hahahaha.... My boyfriend went to youtube and found videos of cats in their first heat.... behaving the EXACT same way as our little boy....ermm.... girl. We called the vet the next day and made an appointment to have her fixed. She's all better now. hehehe

But so happy that you got Coal and her sister.

Yep, I have Coal, and a friend of ours has her sister. Not knowing much about cats, we were going to have play dates so they could still be with each other. Cats aren't like dogs.... they don't like new kitties in their home. Or at least Coal didn't like it. No more play dates.

GOSH  thank you for your kind words!!!! I really appreciate that. :hugs: I DO remember Coal starting out as a boy!!!!!!! and then came the first heat cycle!!!!!!!!!! Well, I always thought the name Coal is cool for a girl or a boy. Every time I hear about how momma cat died, it makes me SOOOOO  :eek:nfire: It really doesn't shock me too much anymore because I hear and see so much abuse and neglect, but it still tears my heart apart every time. I still can't fathom how a "human" being could be so heartless, evil and cruel. :shame: My "foster failure" boys, Walden and Wendall were rescue/abuse cases. :bawling:

I am so thankful that both Coal and Asher were rescued by that wonderful man. See, there are some really good kind people who have to make up for all of the bad in the world. It gives us hope. Now you and your friend continue on with loving and nurturing them. Just a wonderful, heart warming story. I also remember about your condition :hugs::hugs::hugs: ... and how Coal has filled that void. I DO believe that the kitties are like little children. They are to me, anyway. I love them dearly and they are my family in every way that counts. So enjoy your baby!!!!!!!!!! She and her sister, Asher are very, very lucky babies. All they need is love :heart3: and from there they just flourish. Keep the updates coming!!! So glad to hear from you again :hugs: :winkblue:
