My rescued ferals seem to have upper respiratory issues. I cannot get them into a carrier to go to the vet. I have been giving them Clavamox when I can get them. They are avoiding me now. I have a vaporizer running in the room too.

Someone told me that it is like us having a cold and it should run its course. They are still eating, not as much as usual but I am offering anything that appeals to them.

I feel so badly for them and am very worried.

My only experience with upper respiratory infections is from when I would foster shelter cats, but it was easy to administer medicine to them.

So sorry your ferals are sick. :vibes: Prayers and vibes for the kitties.
My feral Lucky has had some URI issues. Not as severe as what you are saying, though, because his appetite was the same and it was the only occasional sneeze or cough.
What I did was go to my local pet store and get some immune boosting treats, and daily vitamins. After a few days of taking them he was all better. :)
I would try to trap them and take them to the vet though, but try that first. Good luck! :wavey:

kittylover posted some pretty good advice on how to care for their ailments. I would just like to add a suggestion on how to catch the little kittehs. Do you have any toys for them? Any toys that really intrigue them? Maybe try using the toys to trick them into the kennel, or a corner for you to grab them. Different cats react differently to different toys. Just use your noggin to think outside of the box, and use the toys as a tool. Works for my little girl. Might not work for yours.... but it might. Good luck! Hope the kitties feel better soon!!!

Hi hun!!! Just got back from vacation and see your thread. Very, very difficult when the feral cats get sick. I would recommend using the L-Lysine - 500 mg. twice daily added to the wet food, if possible. You can get it in the powder form as well. I use this brand and order from Amazon. NOW L-Lysine powder. It is not bitter and mixes easily in any wet food. I would start them on this asap. It might really help. I hope that they are feeling better by now. :cross: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

I use lysine too.  I found this version especially for cats that works quite well.  When the infection is happening you can use 2 scoops per day per cat.  For maintenance, use just 1 scoop.

My indoor kitty came to us with the herpes virus.  He battles reinfection almost once a year and has an almost constant runny eyes.  My 2 ferals came down with it early in the spring.  They were both miserable.  I used lysine as well as clavamox.  I couldn't get them to a vet since all the vets I tried demanded a set appointment.  This could not happen with trapping.  I found an online source for clavamox and it worked well on both of them.
