Well, about a day ago, I noticed my 11 year old cat; Peanut, had not been able to lift his tail up all the way.
at first I thought he was just upset with our new addition to our family; our new kitten, Reese's.
Then I noticed that it seemed like he wasn't moving his tail like he usually does.

I will post a picture.

He's not an out door cat, but we will let him out every once in awhile, and he is supervised.

I don't know if it's his age, or not.
Maybe he got hurt in the middle of the night.

He climbs stairs fine, but I don't know if it's a coincidence or not, but he seems less active in jumping.

Any idea what's wrong with him?

A vet visit is in order for Peanut. Probably not what you wanted to hear, but that is my take by how he looks. Could be a sprain, could be broken, or could be some other ailment. My boy Abby did something like this when he had a bout with FLUTD; he was also not as active with jumping, etc., but Peanut's tail looks more like he hurt it somehow.

HTH a bit,

It's not as bad as it looks in that picture.
He can raise his tail a little higher, but it droops like that.

I agree that a vet visit is in order, especially since it seems to affect movement.

Good luck!

It appears to be broken with the way it is held and then drops. Cats use their tail as a stabilizer so that may be why he isn't  jumping as much. Will he allow you to touch his tail? Can you feel all the way along it? You should be able to feel a break with your fingers with a loss of continuity of the bones. Having said all that, there is nothing better than to take your cat to a vet, because there are lots of other problems that could have caused his tail droop. Is there a reason why you didn't go to the vet?

He still comes in my room, which involves jumping on my bed, and last night I felt his tail, and he let me. I didn't feel anything abnormal, but then again, I'm not a vet. But from previous experiences of feeling his tail, it seems normal (Again, I could be wrong.) Other then last night, he doesn't really let me touch his tail. If I put my hand anywhere near it, he swats at me, and sometimes hisses.
We're gonna call the vet today, and see about bringing him.

Yup, the swatting and hissing if you get near it is a clear signal from your kitty that it hurts. So glad you're going to call the vet...hopefully he can get you in as soon as possible to check this out. Please keep us updated.

Aww poor kitty. :vibes: I would get him to a vet as soon as possible. The hissing and swatting means "Ow, I'm in pain!" :( I think it could be a sprain, or maybe he got it caught in a door or something?
