That's marvelous news. Now we are all going to hope the histology report shows benign cells.  I'm sure you will be at the vet's office first thing tomorrow morning just waiting for them to unlock the door so you can see your Muffin.  It would be wonderful if he bounds back from this, though he has something far more serious, the way Sam has after her surgery. She is doing normal cat things that she hasn't done for well over a  year - swatting other cats, lounging out on the sunny deck, etc. It's been wonderful to watch and I hope you will see Muffin doing all that fun stuff when he has healed.

Oh that is such good news...feels like a huge weight has been lifted off you I bet.

You all will be in my prayers tonight.

That sweet Muffin is a real  trooper.

The vet's office just called me.  Muffin has been awake.  One of the techs is giving hiim fluids right now. The girl who called me said the doctor or his wife, who works with him will go over to the office this evening and check on Muffin.  They ony live a short distance away from the office.  I wish Muffin were home, but I really feel that it is best for him to be there.  This morning when we left the exam room, the vet was holding Muffin.  I went over and kissed Muffin and told him, I love you Muffie, boy.  Just before I went out the door, I glanced behind and the doctor was red eyed and red nosed.  He was having his own struggle holding back the tears.  This vet's parents and brother are also our friends.  We have spent weekends with the parents  at their vacation home.  Hubby taught the two sons when they were in school.  I just want you all to know, my vet will do everything he can to save my cat.  I have no doubt.  I hope any of you who read my posts can see my love for this man's family and for my cat.  So far it is a good report and I wish eveyone could have such a vet as we do.

So far, so good!
It's always great when you have a wonderful relationship with your Vet.  We feel that way with ours, too.  (When we lost Sven about 6 weeks ago, she cried just as hard as we did.)

Don't your kitties live outside? Where will Muffin be recuperating when home?
Yes, they live outside during the day.   They live within a fenced in area with a cat fence attachment to the top that keeps them in and helps to keep other cats out.  However, we live in an area where there is much wildlife, coyotes, bobcats, etc.  At night our cats are brought inside and spend the night in the garage in a big animal cage.  The garage is heated and air conditioned with a unit that was put there especially for our cats.  Muffin will be in that cage while he is recuperating.  At night, our other cat, Mattie will sleep on our screened in porch.  I can't have him in the house because of my husband's allergies.  I will keep a good eye on him. When he begins to feel better, we may move the cage to our porch so he can at least see Mattie and see the ourdoors.  The vet said the main issue is he can't go up steps and can't be in a room where there is anything he can jump on.  Therefore the cage is the safest option.  Also my vet said when he can be moved, I can sit on the porch with him during the day some and spend time loving him.  We will work it out.  He is not going to spend any time outside until he is well. Thank you for your genuine concern

AND AN UPDATE:  The vet's wife just called me.  She went back over to the vet office to check on Muffin.  She said she called his name, he lifted his head so she opened the door and rubbed his head and loved him some.  She is on an IV with a pump to regulate what he needs rhrough the night.  He will sleep.  They will call me in the morning.  .

Muffin is home.  He will be spending his time in a large cat cage in our garage.  It is A/C so he will be comfortable there and if he cries at night, it won't bother us.  He does have a seven inch incision which is stapled on the outside.  He did not come home with a collar, as he is not bothering the staples.  He is eating like a horse today.  The vet says for the most part he is out of the woods now.  They will get the biopsy report back by the first of the week.  In the meantime, Muffin has pain meds and antibiotics for ten days.  The pain meds probably won't be needed that long.  He is purring and moving around and really seems to be doing well.  If I had that kind of incision in my belly, I would be complaining.  I am glad my boy is home.

Awww I'm glad you can see your boy, and that cage is a really good thing for him :-).

On the pain meds, I also found that Toby ate a lot more when he was on the meds, I think they made him feel so good he wanted to conquer the world. I was happy to give him more food and he has not vomited since I brought him home, despite how much he was eating. We were scared to at first but then we just decided to go ahead and give him his food along with the GI powder to help his digestion. Now that he is off the pain meds he is not eating like a pig but he is still eating a lot!

Just wanted to post an update for Muffin.  He is continuing to eat well.  He is not bothering the staples of his incision, no cone collar.  He is not needing pain meds.  He is on his feet, very loving and purring.  Hope to hear the lab report on the mass today or Monday.  I am very thankful he is doing this well,

Thanks for the sweet words, everyone and the prayers for Muffin.  They are working.  We didn't hear from the report today, but the vet expects to have it first thing Monday morning.

MUFFIN UPDATE  We heard today from his lab tests.  The mass was a primary malignant tumor of the liver.  It is known to spread to the lungs and the lymph nodes.  Threre was also some inflamation seen in the normal parts of the remaining liver.  The lymph nodes the vet saw were not enlarged and the x-ray did not show anything.  The problem we are now dealing with is his appetite has drastically declined since I quit his pain meds.  For now we are stopping his antibiotics and giving him the mertapazpine which is an appetite stimulant.  Maybe this will get him going again.  Need continued prayers for Muffin.

Mirtazapine is great and works well but I'm wondering why you don't give him the pain medication. Didn't you say the vet gave you enough for 10 days? We know how well cats hide pain because they are prey and do it to survive. Perhaps the vet knew Muffin would be in some pain for 10 days even while he generally got back to normal.

Has Muffin's breathing improved since removal of the mass?

*PRAYERS* for your sweet Muffin man, ongoing.  And I also wonder why you are not continuing with the pain meds?  Know that he, and you, are in my thoughts and *PRAYERS*.
