Oh Barb, I am sorry to read this.  Take some small comfort knowing you are not alone.

I will say prayers for your boy.   You are doing all you can do.

Gob Bless.

cyproheptadine is just a different appetite stimulant than mirtazapine. I recommend you give him the mirtazapine and don't wait.

I am so sorry to hear about Muffin's troubles! I remember he had trouble with the denamarin, I was so hoping the sam-e alone wouldn't be an issue.

:vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes: Muffin and :hugs: for you :heart3:

I was too. Now I am sorry I ever agreed to start him on it. He is struggling. The vet increased his prednisolone back to 1/2 tablet two times a day. So far that has helped very little. I try givng him both kinds of his cat food. He mostly picks at it. For the last few days since we increased the pred., he eats really good in the morning and then hardly nothing at night. I am going to give him the appetite stimulant tonight if he doesn't eat his UR dry. I already tried the wet food, and he barely touched it.

Sorry to hear that your dear Muffin is having some troubles again, Barb. It is SO very trying on us when our babies have been through so much and don't seem to get a break. My prayers are coming to you and Muffin. You are doing all you possibly can and let that give you some peace. I do know how it feels to be offering every kind of food known to man with no great interest on their part. I hope the appetite stimulant does it's job and your next report is that Muffin has eaten. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

I did finally give him the appetite stimulant Saturday night when I fed him. Sunday morning and night he cleaned his bowl and asked for more. I am calling the vet this morning to see how to proceed from here.

Again, letting you know Muffin is in my prayers.  THat is good news the stimulant worked so hold on to that.  Both you and I are going through tough times with our boys.  One day at a time is about the only thing I can tell you.  That is how I am existing right now.

Prayers for you amd Muffin Boy.

Muffin ate, yay! Just getting his tummy full is bound to make him feel better, and put more fight and appetite into him.

Thanks farleyv and otto. Last night he wouldn't eat again. I finally had to give him Mattie's Meow Mix. I was told by my vet's wife yesterday morning that the vet said watch him a day or two and call them back on Wednesday. we are struggling here. Farleyv, sorry to hear you are going through it too. Since Muffin's cancer surgery last May, one day at the time is how we are managing too. Some days are tougher than others. It gets real hard when they won't eat.

What a roller coaster.  I certainly know what you're going through, although that doesn't help any.
that he gets over this rough patch.

The effect of the appetite stimulant only lasted until yesterday morning. By last night he wouldn't eat any of his food and I fed him the Meow Mix. Same thing this morning. Had a long phone consult with his vet and this is the plan. Muffin's thyroid number had increased when we had him in the office in January for his annual. It was in the very high end of normal. His daily dosage had been cut back to 1/4 tab once a day which is a low dose. The vet wants me to increase that to either 1/2 table daily or 1/4 tab. twice a day, keep the prednisolone at 1/2 tab twice daily, keep giving the Forti Flora. Food wise, offer Muffin his own food and if he refuses it, feed him the Meow Mix for now. This is a concern since he has history of urinary crystals. But it is also more of a concern if he doesn't eat. So keep my Muffin in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks.

Still praying for Muffin, that he will eat his own food. yes, of course any food is better than none, but oh that worry about his urinary tract, oh dear. What a roller coaster it all is. He's such a special boy.

Barb..... just :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: and keeping Muffin in prayer. :rub: It is like a double edged sword when trying to manage so many health issues at one time. One solution may impact negatively on another health problem. Muffin must eat. I actually know how you are feeling. I have an elderly dog with health problems and when he goes off food it is so upsetting and worrisome. It is an up/down ride from day to day. We do the best we can. So hard though. Keeping you close. :hugs: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
