Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
as anti-inflammatory: 1 mg/lb once or twice a day then taper to every other day

for immunosuppression: 1-3 mg/lb once a day then taper to 1-2 mg/lb every other day
Yes. 5mg is a standard anti-inflammatory dose for most cats. Lazlo is on this dose, as is BarbB's Toby. I don't know about Barb's Toby, but Lazlo will be on that dose daily for life. It's a very standard protocol in cancer treatment.

Continued :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: for your Muffin. :heart2:

Thanks everyone.  I do so much appreciate you all.  It is a tough spot to be in, but having friends who care helps.  I want to think that Muffin ate better this morning.  He is taking the thyroid pill and the steroid pill in the pill pocket and that makes it so easy. l love those things.  He is having his supper meal now, so I am anxious to see how he eats tonight.  Sometimes I pour a little chicken broth on the wet food.  This morning I tried his dry W.D food, but he wouldn't have it.  When I gave him the wet, he ate it all.  I am going to continue on with the Purina UR.  He seems to like it better. He would not have the Y/D by Hill's which is the thyroid diet and he really doesn't seem to like the c/d by Hills.  I just went to check on him and I am shouting.  He ate everything in his bowl.  I am so happy.  Thiis is the first time he has done that in a long time now.  Yippee!!!!!!

Thanks Kittylover.  Your post made me laugh.  I am back on here to say Muffin was standing on the porch with his nose at the kitchen door and I am wondering if he wanted something else.  I gave him some more food and he ate every crumb.  Truly the prednisolone has finally kicked in and is making him feel better.  I am beside myself.

The vet wants Muffin to keep on with this Forti Flora.  It is expensive at the vet's office and I am looking at it on Ebay.  Has anyone else gone that route and what is the opinion as to safety.  If it has a good expiration date, do you think I could trust it.

I think Amazon would be a better idea than EBay, IMO. It MIGHT be cheaper than at the vets and I buy that kind of stuff at Amazon all the time with great results! :D

I am giving an update on my cat Muffin.  He is still eating the Purina UR wet food.  Yesterday I gave his some of the dry W/D which is what he ate for years before his liver cancer.  He ate it all. Yesterday afternoon, the vet called me and said reduce his steroid dose to 1/2 pill per day.  Need prayers and vibes for him that he won't lose his appetite again.  Thanks to all.  You guys are really a great support team.

Thanks Feralv.  Those vibes are keeping us going.  We just take life one day at a time now.

I am going through something similiar with my Gertrude.  She is 9yrs old and has a mammory tumor on her stomach that is growing at a fast rate.  The option I had was to for her to have surgery to see of it was cancerous and then to remove it with a chance for it to grow back.  I struggled with this and have decided she is comfortable now she has had a wonderful life.  Going to the vet is such a stress on her and if she only has a little time left I want that time to be happy and stress free.  She would be miserable to be put through several vet trips and procedures.  This is what I am comfortable with.  It is a hard decision and I am sure you will decide what is best for her and you.   Good Luck

My vet was checking today to see how Muffin is doing since his steroid med. has been cut back to once daily.  When I said Muffin is still eating and doing well, he told me call hiim Friday.  If Muffin is still eating and doing well, he wants to cut the predisolone to 1/2 pill every other day.  Fingers and toes crossed everyone that we can get my Muffin either off this steroid or on a very low dose of this stuff.  Also he wants to recheck his blood the middle of August, which will be a month since the last bloodwork.  I feel so blessed to still have my boy after all he has been through.  I am thankful for each day and we are just taking one day at the time.

Yay that is wonderful news!!! Toby seems to be doing good too. He threw up a little bit today but I think that is because he broke into the crunchies or over-ate. At least I hope so!
