Despite the fact that it is only kibble that is being recalled, canned food is made at the same plant, so  keep that in mind.  The way they did this recall, it wouldn't surprise me to hear wet food is being recalled somewhere down the road.

The store I bought my TOTW from is refusing to carry any food made by Diamond in the future, including the canned food.  How on earth are we supposed to keep track of who is making the food we buy, and what is the point of trying to find something that is healthy for them when it all gets thrown into the same manufacturing plant and who know what ingredients are being put in?  I'm really really mad about thinking I had a healthy choice for them, only to find out it's being manufactured by Diamond who have had so many problems in the past.  I would NEVER have feed it to them if I had realilzed it was being made by Diamond.

I know how you feel. Feeding them healthily and safely on commercial foods is a never ending struggle. One of my cats eats a wide variety of brands, one eats a smaller variety, and one can't tolerate eating variety, of course she's the one I worry about most as far as recalls and complete nutrition, since she is on only one food.

I am very sad that I didn't see this thread earlier. I was on vacation and this week has been pretty crazy for me. I already posted in MIke's new thread. I am so appreciative of everyone posting about these recalls. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes: for all of the pets that are sick.

Boy, this just keeps going and going.  I can't find much out about this yet but it is now starting to leak out over local news sources.  This seems to be a credible story and not just a rumor but I will know more by tomorrow.  I'm not trying to spread a rumor and this source seems like a factual and credible news source.  Have not been able to find anything on the FDA sight yet.

Excerpt from article from the Alaska Dispatch via Christian Science Monitor

"It's the food recall that just won't end.

From the recall of a single batch of its “Diamond Naturals” dry dog food on April 6 for possible salmonella contamination, Diamond Pet Foods has expanded the recall on eight separate occasions, endured a week-long inspection of one of its plants by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which criticized its practices, and most recently acknowledged that cats are also at risk."

This is scaring me. My kitty is already sick from a cold and I HATE seeing food recalls. We're feeding pro plan dry food, which she won't touch, so she's mainly eating the wet food. She's been eating fancy feast wet food. We've also purchased wet friskies and meow mix. Now I'm worried these may be included in the recall. Is there a chance any of them may at some point? Thanks.

Dry pet foods are far more susceptible to salmonella contamination than wet foods. Dry food is exposed to the air and, particularly if not stored properly, any bacteria present will multiple rapidly. The problem is made worst by the industry practice of spraying fat on dry food to make it more palatable. The fat itself can easily be contaminated with bacteria.

Canned food is safer from bacterial contamination because it the cans are sealed then heated  to temperatures that kill bacteria.

Mike, this IS much appreciated. We here on TCS all want to be kept abreast of any and all recalls, I am sure. Your thoughtfulness and care is much appreciated. I worry for the people out there that don't know what is going on and are feeding their dogs/cats potentially contaminated food unknowingly. :sniffle:

Solid Gold now has a website: http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm303061.htm?source=govdelivery

and so if I am understanding correctly. For Taste of the Wild. My state is not one of the affected states. And my production code is only 9 digits long (so doesn't have the 2/3 and X). However the "Best Before Date" falls in the range. Does this mean that my food is ok?
I think you have it right - at least that's the way I understood the statement - it wasn't an EITHER/OR, and was an AND. :?.

See my post #6 in this thread..

Sheesh, I can't keep up with all the recalls...too much for my head! Does someone have a list of all the brands that Diamond makes? Not just the recalled ones but all they produce. I don't know where most of the food I buy comes from, so I just want to avoid ALL of them from Diamond until this recall stuff is over. Friskies is starting to look a little better right now.

On a side note, I seen that Natural Balance was in there somewhere. Parker would NOT eat the can I got for him. I had to throw it out.

Hope no one else, humans or pets dies from this.

I've merged three threads on this important topic into one so all the information is in one place.
