I may need to take Nala to the emg. clinic, so I'm just going to link to her background information.http://www.thecatsite.com/t/243767/...from-vet-need-advice-asap-please#post_3199838   . Following that thread, we took her to a new vet who said her kidneys were not small and shriveled, like with CRF, but had a weird texture.  So she thought it might be cancer.  However, after taking a urine analysis, she said it was possible it was caused by an infection.  She gave us antibiotics, subqs, pepcid, and food to force feed to take home.  The first few days, we had a terrible time attempting the subqs and forcefeeding.  The past three days, though, we did much better.  Today, Nala was doing great.  Her demeanor changed completely, and she seemed back to her old self (affectionate, walking around, coordinated, energetic).  She was even starting to seem interested in food (licked a little bit of Fancy Feast).  We kept force feeding her anyway due to the risk of hepatic lipidosis, and tried to do the subqs again at the designated time tonight, but she had so much strength and energy that we were unable to get the full 100 (just 50).   She seemed completely fine after the subqs, but 20 minutes later, she had a seizure (legs paddling, body convulsing, but no frothing) that lasted for about 15 seconds.  The local emg. clinic is so expensive that I fear just the cost of the visit and tests is going to take all the money we have and leave nothing to be used for actual treatment.  Our vet opens in about five and a half hours.  I have no idea what caused the seizure, but my worries are hepatic lipidosis, potassium, or the kidney failure that started all this.  For anyone who's had experience with these issues, do I have five hours?  And should I not feed her any more in that time?  I don't want to do anything to cause another seizure or make things worse.

Does your emergency vet take Care Credit? If they do, you could apply for that there for treatment and pay it off. I believe they give you a bit of time before you have to start making payments, but I'm not 100% sure on that. It would leave you money for actual treatment and allow you to pay off the emergency visit.

It's really hard to say whether you have 5 hours or not... how is she acting now? Is she dehydrated? Is she hungry? Hopefully someone more knowledgable will see this and chime in. If it were me, I'd call the emergency vet and see if they take Care Credit, if they do I'd go in right away. If not, I'd take her in anyways and then work out the rest after she's stable.

After the seizure, she just hopped up and meowed a bit, started rubbing legs and being really affectionate.  Presently, she is just sleeping on me, though she had just fallen asleep when the attack had happened.  There were no signs or anything leading up to it, so I'm on edge right now hoping it doesn't happen again.

I would get her to the emergency vet as soon as possible. I don't have any experience with seizures in cats myself, but my kitty Candy recently passed away due to lymphoma in her kidneys. All I can really say is to trust your instincts. If you believe it is an urgent situation and that it cannot wait, then take her. You know your kitty the best. If Nala's kidneys are failing, she probably won't be able to make it to the litterbox to pee. I hope your Nala is okay, and I will keep both you and her in my prayers. :vibes:

I hope your cat is better. Low potasium may cause seizures but a vet has to test for it. You cannot randomly give it as the wrong dose can cause heart problems. If she is doing better you may want to join the group affiliated with this site and read the site it's really very helpful:
