So I was wondering if anyone has any favorite cat books either caring for cats, or novelty ones. I have not been able to put down "Chicken soup for the Cat Lovers Soul" It's purrrrrrrfect! :)

I have heard of and see "The Cat Who" books- do they actually have anything to do with Cats/?

"The Cat Who..." books are mysteries, but two Siamese cats (and occasionally others) are important characters and play a role in solving each mystery.

The older "Cat Who. . ." books are great, but the newer ones are quite formulaic. Another mystery series involving a cat is the Mrs Murphy series (by Rita Mae Brown).

The older Sneaky Pie books are far better than the newer ones (like #15 onward).

I tried one of the "Cat Who" books but couldn't get into them.  But back then I was still into the Sneaky Pie books so maybe I'll give them another shot.  Didn't the woman who wrote these books ( Lillian Jackson Brown) pass away last year?

I tried Midnight Louie's books as well and couldn't get into them.

I really enjoy the Midnight Louie books by Carole Nelson Douglas. Used to enjoy The Cat Who, but they got boring; they became same-old, same-old. I also like Sneaky Pie Brown (author is Rita Mae Brown), but as Sneakymom said, the older ones were far better. I don't enjoy reading political rants. Plus, the author is really into breast cancer awareness, so Harry (the main character) got breast cancer and each successive novel deals with check-ups, mammograms, and the like. That's OK, I guess, as it's getting the word out. But when I flop down on the sofa to read a book, I don't want to read about subjects like that. That could just be me.....your mileage may vary.

Try the Joe Grey series by Shirley Rousseau Murphy. It's standard murder mystery stuff, but in this case, there's a clowder of cats that have the ability to speak to humans. A little something different.

I haven't read all the Mrs Murphy books. . .but I did notice that I liked them less after Harry stopped being postmaster ;). Probably that's when they started going downhill. And, yeah, older The Cat Who. . . books are SO much better than the new ones, I would kind of expect the same from any other series. There's only so long you can think up fresh new ideas for a mystery story while still keeping to a theme. And, yeah, I forgot about Midnight Louie! I like those, too.

I think I remember reading some of the "Cat Who" books in high school, now that I think back.

It would make sense that a Siamese would help solve the mystery, as they are highly intelligent animals :)

Those are the ones I like the best, though I enjoyed the Mrs. Murphy books till she got too "preachy". The Joe Grey series is kept interesting with the addition of new "regular" characters; now she's got Misto and Pan.

Yes, they do!  Cats are main characters in this very entertaining series.  Excellent light reading, amusing and interesting, not too heavy, just right for before-bed reading IMHO!

"The Wild Road" and "The Golden Cat" by Gabriel King and "Tailchaser's Song" by Tad Williams are all excellent! They are fantasy adventures but set in modern times, and are told in first person from the cat's point of view. The King books are about a kitten named Tag who unknowingly followed his destiny by chasing a bird (a main character) out of the yard and ultimately saved the cat world. William's book has a similar premise but is completely different, if you know what I mean. Definitely would recommend them!
