Got to the hospital early today for angioplasty.  After prep work blood count came back with a high level of something that affects the kidneys.     Apparently diabetes and kidneys are related.     Dr. did not want to to the angio with that high level since they have to inject a dye to do the procedure and he didn't want to affect kidneys.      Anyway he is in the hospital hooked up to IV fluids to lower the blood level to an acceptable count.      Dr said he will do the angio tomorrow morning.    Needless to say we're both really stresed out by this whole thing, and I know Paul is a nervous wreck about this.  So am I - but I'm trying to cover up.

Will let you know what happens.

Thanks for your concern.

Thanks for the update.  Since the kidney's filter everything out of the body, they need to be as healthy as possible.  The doctor is hoping the fluids will help flush out whatever is causing the elevated levels.  Know that he's in the best place.

:eek:hno: Not the update I was expecting here and I am sure this is very, very difficult for you and Paul. Such a trying time, but things will get better! It is really hard to stay positive but you are right to try to make Paul feel that way. A positive outlook can do wonders. Thinking of you and Paul - hopefully tomorrow they can do the angio :cross: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

So sorry to hear this, my grandad has diabetes and his kidneys are affected too, I know this is worrying but my grandad found out he had diabetes 20 years ago and its just a matter of learning about it and looking after yourself, my grandad turned 80 in march and he is as fit as a fiddle so believe me although it's all worrying try and stay positive. Will be thinking of you both.xx

Sounds like his creatinine was elevated.  An elevated creatinine could be indicative of kidney issues, but it could be as a result of being dehydrated.

Over the river and through the woods...
for Paul and for you! I'm so sorry you have this stress on top of everything else. But, I agree with Linda, one cause could be dehydration. Stress could probably be another cause after everything you guys have been through.

But, back to dehydration, Chip (DH) went the ER one day with chest pains (this was a few months before he was diagnosed with diabetes). Turns out he was suffering from dehydration and was low/high on many levels. His main problem was his potassium was low which is what caused the pains. EKG and everything else came back normal. I don't know if they tested his kidneys but if it can affect one thing it makes sense it can affect all.

I'm thinking of you both and please let us know how the test turns out tomorrow. I know the waiting game sucks and even if doctors explain what is going on you usually don't have a clue what they are talking about (at least I don't). Do they have a "Doctors for Dummies" book for sale?

If I may be so bold, this is from Facebook from Friday.....sounds like blood pressure is the issue right now:

"Significant heart damage which may in the future require by-pass. As of now because of his fluctuating blood pressure surgery is not recommended (per the surgeon). Cardiologist still has to see him.

Spoke to him after the angio and he said that surgery isn't needed immediately, but they can treat it with various medication, etc. We'll just have to see what happens and stabilize blood pressure. If he can tolerate by-pass that would be an option after everything is stabilized."

Lana, still sending lots of
and good thoughts for Paul! Please let us know how things are going.
