Hello, I am new here and this is my first post. I've adopted a male black and white (tuxedo) kitten named Sylvester. When we first got Sylvester at 8 weeks, he was VERY tiny, but all black and white. Around 10 weeks he started developing very faint stripes and spots, almost as though his fur has faded in those areas. He is a VERY active and eats and drinks plenty. I forgot to mention my 3 year old adult male tabby, Bear! Bear does groom Sylvester frequently, not sure if that could have something to do with it? I can't seem to find anything about this online and was just wondering if anyone had any insight to share with me! Thank you!

Thank you! I'm slightly confused, though! I haven't been able to find anything out about the faded stripe/spot pattern that developed randomly on Sylvesters fuzzy black & white coat?

When my stray/rescue wandered into my house 4 years ago and presented me with 5 beautiful kittens, I was surprised at how some of them changed colors as they grew. All of the boys were black, but when newborn, had "tiger stripes" that were very evident. As they got older, it was impossible to see the stripes.

If your kitten is happy and active, eating and drinking and showing no signs of illness or behavior problems, I'd relax and enjoy him!

I agree.  Ritz coloring has changed too, especially the white spot "of paint" at the tip of his previously all-black tail.  I swear, one day I woke up and it was there!

NOW, if you start seeing fur missing, then that's a different issue/problem.

Welcome to TCS!! It is very common for your kitten to change color as he grows older. My Rusty was a lighter color when we brought her home at 7 weeks but she has gotten darker. She is 3 1/2 now. Dusty has also gotten darker. I have had cats that were pure white when born but developed points on their ears, nose and tail. We would love to see a pic of your kitties.

Solid color cats often display a faint tabby (striped/spotted/marbled) pattern, it's called ghostmarking. Ghostmarking will most often fade as the cat gets older.
