About a week ago, I noticed that 3-yr-old Mai Tai's right eye was a little droopy and had a goob in the corner.  I cleaned the goobie from the eye, gently with a qtip, for the next 2 days.  It would come back about 2 hours after cleaning it and it was starting to be a green discharge, so I took her to the vet.  Her temp was normal, and they dyed her cornea to check for injury but found nothing.  The vet prescribed bacitracyn-neomycin-polysporin ointment to be administered directly to the eye 2x a day for 3 days and then 1x daily for 4 days.  Today is day 4, and although the gooby is no longer green, her eye is still weeping and swollen/droopy.

I'm getting concerned that maybe she has a staff infection (although her temp was normal at the time we saw the vet)..

Also, could a fall cause this kind of thing?  I have a loft with a high ledge that she has fallen from before.  I wonder if maybe this is neurological or a stroke?  I'm probably "awfulizing" but I don't see it getting any better, really.  Today the light hit her eyes and it looked cloudy..

I would ring to my vet to check if he/she thinks progress so far is adequate.  If she is otherwise well and behaving normally a systemic infection seems unlikely, especially since the other eye isn't infected.

Thank you OrientalSlave,

I took her to the vet this morning since Dr. thought that she should have shown improvement by now. She dyed the cornea again to check for missed ulcerations/scratches and found none.  Dr. thinks that it is feline chlamydia or possible herpes virus, resistant to the bacitracyn.  Prescribed stronger e-mycin ointment.  After 2 applications, 12 hrs later she is like a new kitty!  Eye is open, tail up, walking with confidence, playing ambush tag-you're-it with her sissie, Tater Sue.  Also she is enjoying her 6-12 Lysein treats per day, she comes running in when I open "magic cupboard" and rustle the bag.

Great Galluping Kitty Cats, I think we've got it!

I was following this thread for a while and did a bit of Internet research and I came up with nothing. I'm very pleased to hear your kitty has gotten better, though! I just wanted to send some good vibes! :vibes:

Thanks kittylover23,

Well, the saga continues..

I think this may be URI born, as no sooner did Mai Tai's right eye recover, her left eye became inflamed.  I started to see inflamation last night and the left eye had a trail of green goo down from the inner corner of by this morning.  I have also heard an occasional sneeze within the last couple of days.  She is in the dumps again today, scowling and hiding in the closet, poor baby..

To make matters worse, Tater seems to have contracted it also in her left eye as well.

I have a call in to the vet, to ask if it is ok for me to treat both sets of eyes for both kitties with the same ointment.  Treating both cats daily with the Lysein treats as a precaution.

You can see from the avatar pic above how beautiful her eyes are when she's feeling like herself.  I feel so sad for her right now.

Here is a picture of Mai Tai in her dresser drawer, feeling yucky..

Awww poor Mai Tai and Tater! It should be okay to use the ointment on both cats, I have done it before for my two ferals who both had eye infections. Hope both your kitties get better soon. :vibes: More good vibes for all of you!

Hope your kitties keep improving.

My Poppy has been fighting an eye infection since January.  The antibotic w/steroid drops helped clear it up.  Now he's having other issues, scratching and licking, vet says it may be allergies.  I just posted about it.

Wish our cats could tell us what is bothering them.  I hate not knowing what is exactly going on with him.  Makes me worry too much!
