I posted a long time ago about my nanas two cats, they had really bad skin, scabs and all the skin seemed like a pug dogs. My nan and grandad are in failing health and have memory loss and they don't live that close so I don't get to visit that much. I posted on here on ways basically how I could tell them that the cats whom they adore like babies needed vets attention in a way that wasn't going to upset them. They have just in their old age let things slip and forgotten vets appointments for health checks, even after constant reminding, they are the type of people who wouldn't accept help unless it was a last resort and they started feeding the cats a total raw diet which i didn't think was suiting them as thats all they were having just chicken every day.
Well I did tell them and they took them both to the vets turns out both the boys have a major flea allergy and my nan was just buying pet shop flea repellent which was just no good at all for them, they now both have injections once every 6 months and they buy frontline to treat them with too as the vet recommended.they also treated the house and bedding, the raw diet has gone (they still have the odd treat which the vet said was fine) and they now eat what the vet recommended which is a wet and dry diet. And fantastic the vets have now opened a new clinic 5 minutes away from their house and they send them reminders when the boys have to go for their checks/injections. The thing is they both went last month for their injections and they have had the frontline treatment but I have been today and noticed that one of the boys still has a lot of scabs, his skin is a lot better and he looks very well, the scabs are dry and don't seem to be bothering him. The other kitty has cleared up completely and is fine. I told my nan to phone the vets or I would and take him back as he may need further treatment for the allergy or some kind of ointment? My cat Candy has a flea allergy and she too gets the scabs, she has the injections and frontline but she only ever seems to have a breakout on her skin when its wet weather and as soon as the weather dries up she is fine, very odd.x
