hey sicy,

i guess u should try talking to zoey first.. i did this to meow when i got boy boy and when i couldn't decide whether to get her neutered or not.. i just put her in a room with me alone.. just talked to her and she understands i guess..maybe then introduce the kittens to her.. it might be easier.. it was much easier for boy boy as meow knew of his existence... i guess zoey is the princess at home so she might feel a bit threatened.. give it some serious thought and talk to zoey about it..

Yzma, I cant just borrow my neighbors kitten for more than a day
Plus the screen leads to the outside and her kittens are indoor only. I might just carry her kitten over and let Zoey peek at him first, then maybe the next day sit with him in my lap and see what Zoey does. I dont want to bring Zoey over there because I think it might make her scared to be in an odd house with kittens. Plus if I do get one its coming into my house so I can see how she will feel about my neighbors kitten coming into my house.

Also, one good thing, I just talked to my landlord and she said I would not have to pay another deposit
I can have 2 cats under one deposit.

Yeay... I'm so happy for you about the pet deposit!! At least that's one thing out the way...
Actually i meant borrow just for a while (half an hour) everyday till the get used to each other... Kateangs's suggestion might work too...

And i can't wait for all the new kitty pictures... of zooey and kitty X.

Have you thought of fostering a cat to see how Zoey reacts? I don't really know what all is involved in fostering so maybe someone else can help with that??
If you find a foster kitty that Zoey takes to well then you could adopt the kitty for good!

according to my 'cabalistic oracle'

zoey means:
900. VALIANT, WARRIOR, CROSS, DECORATIONS
50. CAPTIVITY FOLLOWED BY LIBERTY, HAPPINESS
5. HAPPINESS, FORTUNE, POWER

i spelled my zooey with an extra o because zooey means:
5. HAPPINESS, FORTUNE, POWER

zooey zoo nuts means:
35. SPIRITUAL AND PHYSICAL HARMONY, HEALTH

and i was very pleased with that meaning...

anyway...
i feel a new kitty is in the air...

I dunno about fostering. I guess I could find out from my 2 local shelters.

Guess what though.. my neighbor just knocked on the door, and when I opened it she was holding Tom her brown tabby. I called Zoey over and we all stood in the doorway. She looked very curious but didnt do anything. Then she went to get the other kitten Binky and I held him and walked a couple feet into my apartment and knelt down. They were about 1 foot away from each other. No hissing. No tail puffing. Zoey actually started to walk toward the kitten in my lap but I stood up cuz I'm not quite sure what she was going to do. Her pupils were slightly big. But I might borrow her kitten a little bit at a time and maybe let them loose by the third time.. keeping a close eye of course.

Aww this is so cute Sicy. You're the only one who can wing this decision ultimately. Either she'll like it or not. Everyone's experiences are different so I'm not going to bother adding mine to the confusion. It will take time though. I thought my JB wouldn't be accepting of my son after he was born but he adjusted and adapted, the main thing I did was to give JB a lot more attention whenever I was with my son or the other cat I had, Mango. Everyone tried talking me into selling JB before I had my son, like he was a piece of furniture or something!
I know with what I've seen when my son is crying unusually loud due to that last choking scare or he wakes up from sleep (while I'm showering) JB will bite my ankles and hiss at me and then lick my son or sit next to him, it's soooo cute!!! And makes my heart all mushy.
I have considered getting him a companion but he seems a lot happier being the only one since Mango disappeared.

Just my $0.02; have you considered getting an adult cat? The reason I suggest this is that you are specifically looking for a calm lap cat, and you have a better chance of getting one if you choose an adult whose behavior is already known. Granted, you never know with cats, but with a kitten it's very much up in the air how it'll be in the future. I'd still say go for a different gender, though. Good luck!

Well we had Fluffy about a month before Socks came along. The first few days were tense with alot of rough playing and i thought oh oh this ain't going to work! But it did and they are best friends now. I think Zoey would enjoy a friend

I think Zoey would be more threatened by an adult cat. Also I think a kitten at age 4 or 5 months will have pretty much already have a personality. My neighbors cats do.. one of them loves to cuddle and the other doesnt.

I've never had a male cat though ...
I'm really used to females

i think Zoey would do fine with a kitten about 3 or 4 months old,, there will be some hissing and growling maybe but thats normal, my sisters first cat was like Zoey fiesty and spoiled and the she got Tiny he was about 3 months old, Theodore hated him at first, for about a week even my sister, but then it was all over, when Tiny got sick with Kidney failure, Theodore clung to him, like he knew he was sick. i would think Zoey would be the same way, look at all the people on here that have 6, 7, some even 10 cats, they all get along pretty good, it just takes some time. i would wait until i could be home with them for a couple days to watch them, just to be sure, but i say go for it
