About a week ago my 13 year old cat, Missy, started sneezing and snorting. I took her into the vet and he said she had an allergy to something. I think it might be the cat grass I bought her a couple of weeks ago. He gave me chlorpheniramine tablets to give her, which is an antihistamine. I gave her the medication and then she has started hanging her mouth open and drooling.  I noticed today that one eye was dilated and the other was not. It also appears that she is tilting her head to one side. Did she have a mild seizure from the medication or is it something else? I stopped giving her the medication and she isn't sneezing or snorting anymore. Everything else is normal. She still has an appetite and is using the bathroom normally.

She has been having issues for a couple of months now. I took her into the vet in February because she wasn't peeing or pooping and was dehydrated. The vet ran blood tests on her and took x-rays and said that he couldn't find anything wrong with her. I brought her home and she returned to normal except she started throwing up her food on a regular basis. I think she might have been eating too fast so I changed around her diet and started feeding her 3 small meals a day and that took care of the vomiting. A week later the sneezing had begun. She has lost a lot of weight over these past months so she looks pitiful. Now she is hanging her mouth open and drooling.

Has anyone ever experienced this with their cat? If she isn't better by Monday I plan to take her back to the vet (the vet office is not open tomorrow). I'm worried about her and not sure what has happened to her.

Hi jfarmer!  I am so sorry you are going through all of this with your girl.  I'm not a vet but it sounds like your cat was having an adverse reaction to the chlorpheniramine tablets and needs to have her medication changed ASAP.  I would talk to the vet about that as soon as you can. I guess you are going back on Monday.  From what you have written I am assuming the drooling was caused by the tablets?  Maybe I am reading this incorrectly but that is what I am reading into it.  What blood tests did your vet take?  I'm not sure what your cat was tested for.  It is possible she may have had a mini stroke but not saying the cause is the medication.  Best of luck to both of you and please keep us posted on what you find out.  Sending vibes

Hey! Thanks for the reply! I ended up taking her to the emergency vet this morning. When I woke up she had blood coming out of her mouth, so I rushed her in. The vet said that she had had a seizure and bite her tongue, so that is why she was bleeding. She also had some mammary tumors, so the vet thinks the cause of the seizure was a brain tumor. She is thinking the mammary tumors may have spread. They are keeping her for 24 hours to observe her. If she doesn't have anymore seizures I will probably bring her home and see how she does. If she has another seizure, I think my only choice is to let her go because I can't let her suffer. I'm kind of down in the dumps about it right now. I'm not to sure what is going to happen, but I don't think it is going to be good.

Poor little girl!  Sometimes it takes some real detective work to find out what makes our feline friends feel bad, since they are SO bad about tellling us!
