I just took in a stray from a lady in my neighborhood who does TNR.  This cat was not feral & she needed a foster for him since the rest of the ferals would be put back where they were found.  I took this stray in who has already been fixed by a previous ower (who was never found) and had his rabies shot.  I haven't had the opportunity to take him to the vet as I have just had surgery and am limited movement and money.  I just didn't want this stray to be put back out with the ferals since he is such a loving cat.  However, my question here is... he has a pronounced limp in his back leg which leads me to believe he might have been hit by a car.  It doesn't seem to bother him, he let's me pet it, massage it, brush it, has no problem walking, running, jumping on the bed etc... and doesn't cry or make any movements or noises that it bothers him.  Before I take him to the vet who will most likely tell me I need major surgery on the break, which doesn't seem to be the case.  What should I do?  Should I just give him a joint supplement?  Have a surgery or re-break?  I don't know how old he is, but thinking he is about 4 y/o or so.  Could be younger, it's hard to tell.  He is a Maine Coon or part MC... he has all the markings of a MC except that long piece of fur off the ear.  Any advice?  He will be going to the vet in the next month but would like to know from the general knowledge public who has no monetary gain, what advice could help.  Thanks!

Thank you for taking this guy in. If he's able to get around without pain I'm guessing that he might just have to live with a limp for the rest of his life. NOT a vet so it's a guess, but you're probably right that he was hurt, had a fracture that healed on its own.

Obviously, it is not life threatening so if your vet suggests something expensive and involved, ask why and then give yourself some time to do research before you make a decision.

That's only my opinion, though.

I agree wholeheartly with Catmom5 opinion.

Talk simply with the vet, and make your stand from there on.

He is no racing horse, so some limp dont matter very much, as long as we are sure it doesnt pain.

Tx for helping this guy,

Welcome to the TCS site and Forums

Good luck!   *vibes*

Hi :) and welcome. I agree in that this is an "old" healed over injury and I don't think there is much to worry about. I have a feral cat with a very crooked leg :( probably broken at one time and healed on it's own :sobbing: She also has a slight limp but otherwise is in no pain at all. I think if this cat runs/plays and lets you touch the leg and pet him without any sign of displeasure or pain, then he is just fine IMO. Thanks for taking him in. He sounds like a real dear :rub: :heart4: :vibes::vibes::vibes:

I'll definitely keep you updated and yes, his name was just "Chatty", which I renamed Chatty Tony.   I used to live w/someone we jokingly called Chatty Cathy and also my favorite driver for NASCAR is Tony Stewart who drove for Home Depot for 10 yrs & Chatty Tony was found at a Home Depot & trapped with a few other ferals.  They realized when they brought him to the vet that he wasn't feral and had already been fixed (after they notched his ear lol).  So Chatty Tony he became and it is fitting because he really loves to talk, especially about 5:30 am!!!  Which is fine, cuz I'm usually up at 6am, so he's my lil' alarm clock.  I see you have quite the brood yourself!  I think that is fantastic, I wish I had more room in my apt for more.  I think it's wonderful you care for so many, I'm sure they love their mama!

:lol3: CHATTY TONY  :rub: Perfect name for him and how ironic that he was found in a Home Depot parking lot too. I like how you put that name together for him. He is going to be such a wonderful, loving furbaby for sure. :rub: YES - I love all of my babies, too. They all have a story, don't they  and they all are very special :heart3: MUCH LUCK with Chatty Tony - that is pretty cute that he talks to you... :D :vibes:
