my 4 year old healthy siamese went in for a tooth scaling and dental extraction and suffered from cardiac arrest at the end of her surgery. she was revived and critical for 12 hours but thankfully survived. however, she has completely lost vision in both eyes as a result of brain damage (clot or oedema) - we saw an opthamologist who confirmed that her retinas are fine. the vet has no idea why this happened (says if it was the anasthetic the adverse reaction wouldn't have presented itself at the end of the surgery). does anyone have any experience with this? how can this happen? and how can i help her? any chance of it being reversible?

I have not heard of blindness specific to cardiac arrest after a dental, but have definitely heard of at after a dental.  There have been a couple of posts just lately concerning that.  What did the Vet say about it being permanent.  I've heard that usually, if the sight is going to return, it can take up to 5 or 6 weeks.  But thank goodness your little girl survived!  Cats can do well even if the blindness doesn't go away.  They adapt better than humans.  Our best friends' cat went blind from high blood pressure when he was a senior, and you would never have guessed.  The only time he had a problem was when the dishwasher was open...he would occasionally walk into the door.

that her sight returns.
