My recent (2 months ago) outdoor feral cat has become a beloved indoor social cat - amazing transformation!

Sadie has been vetted, dewormed, and Advantaged.  He was worm, flea and mite free at his vet check (also had a tail amputation).

The problem is that despite all this, he is continually scratching and licking himself everywhere.

We are not close enough yet for me to be hands on checking his skin.

Can anyone please advise what might be making him crazy itchy and what can I do to help him?

Edit:  My other 2 cats and dog do not scratch and Sadie's favorite spot is my bed on my pillow and I am not itchy nor do I appear to have any bug bites.

Thank-you!

Could it be an allergy? Or, do you know if he had fleas prior? I'm just wondering if he could be itchy from my flea dirt still on his skin or a reaction to the flea medicine?

Also, what kind of food is he being fed? My newest cat was very itchy from the day we brought him home, and in his case, we figured he had a food allergy.

Have you called the vet regarding his itching? Just in case it is a reaction to something he was given.

Hope he feels better!!

It is interesting that you mention a reaction to the flea meds, as he seems to have gone itch crazy after the Advantage application.

At the time of his vet check, he did not appear to have fleas.  I treat my cats because my dog does go outside and I live in the forest.

All of my cats are on a prescription Hypoallergenic diet because one of my kitties has digestive issues.  Much easier to feed them all the same then try to segregate and feed!!

I also wondered if he is so itchy because he has an outdoor, winter feral coat and his body/skin is trying to adjust to heated indoor air.

Any treatment for soothing skin?

Thanks for the link, there is a lot of good info there.

I met with the Vet today and he seems to think Sadie may be allergic to the Advantage.

I have started him on anithistamines and fingers crossed it will start helping very soon.

Huge breakthrough the last 2 days with Sadie!  He is now very much a HANDS ON kitty!
