okay so I have a very pregnant domestic long hair kitty who seems to be on the last legs of her pregnancy. I have been able to see her babes kicking and rolling inside of her very vividly for a week now, and since then i have noticed her start acting the way she did when she was in heat. When she walks(which is not very often) she keeps her tail high in the air and purrs at me and then runs to the door begging to be let out. This is very strange because I've been reading that pregnant cat's generally don't want to go outside. She is also picking up very strange behavior such as trying to eat my dogs food. I have had to sit in front of her to keep her away from the dog food, where as before she really didn't give it a second glance. She is also not as large as the other pregnant cats i have been seeing, she has a very definite football shape which is now getting larger and seems to have dropped a little, but its no where near as large as the basketball shaped lumps i am seeing from most of the cat owners on here. She is a domestic long hair, with very very long hair. It was so long i had to cut all the hair off of her bellie just to see her nipples. She is now starting to shed hair from around her nipples but not as much as i thought she should have shed, and her nipples are definitely beginning to fill with milk as the are starting to sag and are very swollen and pink. Does anyone know why my cat is acting this way? I will take any answers anyone has to my many many questions. I am just a very anxious "Mom" and it makes me nervous with her having all of these strange new behaviors. Thank so much! Erin

Does she still eats fully her normal cat food? Is it kitten food?  If yes, it doesnt matter much if she nibbles a little of the dog food. Dog food isnt no poisonous, and if of very good quality, may even be good enough for cats too.  The big problem with dog food it usually contains too little taurine. That is why dog food shouldnt be the main course for cats. But as dessert, OK.   :)

Good idea of you to cut off excess of hairs around her nipples. Perhaps also around her private parts.

It is my belief half of the reason they licks themselves so much down there the last days of pregnancy, isnt not just only their cleaningness, and also they want something to do waitning, but also - this is their way to take away the excessive fur from private parts + nipples.

Good luck to you and your very pretty cat!   *vibes*

Yes she eats mixture of kitten and her reg. cat food, just because it take her a long time to get used to food change so i dont want to get her completely on kitten food and then have to change back to her cat food after the kittens are weaned. But ya she eats her cat food all day, and then snacks on the dog food. I just didn't know if it was okay that she was eating it.

And ya about the hair thing, she puked up a giant hair ball this morning on my carpet. Time to cut more hair off i guess! hahaa

It is not recommended that cats eat dog food, because it often has ground-up- bone in it that could hurt the cat's digestive system. A little will probably not hurt, but don't let her do it regularly.

Thank you so much for your response! I don't want it to hurt her, or the kittens, that's why i've been keeping it away from here.

How so?  If the bones not milled properly, perhaps so, but if milled properly should be just fine.

More than so, it could be a good source of calcium.  In fact, milled down bones ARE sometimes used as extra source of calcium, also for cats.  For example if they eat very much pure muscles-meat.

Or what did I missed?

Although as I said, dog food shouldnt be the main course for cats, so we do have the same conclusion.

I apologize for the picture overload, but I have a question, today I noticed my cats tummy seemed to sag a bit so i took some pictures of her and decided to seek the advice of all of you.

Does this look like her belly might have dropped? I have never had an animal pregnancy and I am freaking out and over analyzing everything haha, but does this look like her belly could have dropped?

Last Friday was the first time i have felt the babies and seen them moving around inside her, and we thought she was 7-8 weeks pregnant then,

so by now she has to be at least 8-9 weeks. She is snacking on food, but not very much, but last night she was chowing down every few minutes.
